Mario is well known for his jumping abilities, but not quite so much his running speed. Despite the world of Paper Mario: The Origami King being entirely flat, getting from one place to the next can be a bit of a slog if you’re hoofing it on foot. The game may not be a gigantic open world, but going from one end of the game to the other by running would be a painful experience.
Thankfully, that’s not the only option. No, Yoshi isn’t here to carry you, and Luigi’s Kart is missing in action, so how will Mario get around? By going back to his oldest and most reliable form of transportation, of course, pipes!
How To Fast Travel
As mentioned, pipes will serve as your method of fast travel in Paper Mario: The Origami King. Unlike pipes of old, which were essentially magic doors between two locations, now they connect to a hub of sorts where you can actually do more than just warp from point to the next.
The first instance of pipes you’ll encounter in the Mushroom Kingdom is in Toad Town. This town has its own little system of pipes to help you get around this specific area much quicker than your feet can carry you. Once your journey takes you beyond the familiar castle walls, the system opens up when you come across more pipes. You’ll have to unlock them by removing the Origami King’s stickers from them, but once you do you’ll have a new way back and forth to that original hub in Toad Town.
What is kind of strange is that this hub area in the pipes is also where you can view all your achievements. Things like fishing records, collectibles, concept art, and trophies are all on display to admire as you pass through. Don’t get too distracted by all this, though, because the somewhat easily missed pipe on the far right is where you need to go in order to reach the hub where you can go between any unlocked pipe you’ve found in the world. They’re even all color coded and numbered to make it easier to remember which one goes where! Just find the one you’re after, slide down, and you’ve saved yourself a ton of time!
