Everybody loves a good crossover, and gamers, in particular, get a good kick out of it as many fantasy scenarios come true. The Pokémon series has generally been used to put these scenarios in context, as each Pokémon can signify the characterization of a protagonist or antagonist.
For this reason, we’ve come up with 10 characters from the Assassin’s Creed series who would do well by having a Pokémon’s companionship. These have been assessed based on the individual character’s personality and how they would make use of their Pokémon. Read on further to see which Pokémon suits a particular character.
10 Edward Kenway - Squirtle
This pairing is for obvious reasons, as Edward’s background as a pirate makes it natural he would go for a water-type Pokémon. Rather than have the evolved Blastoise, a Squirtle is suited for Edward since he preferred to be stealthy in his activities.
Squirtles’ small frame makes those Pokémon perfect to sneak around while using water as a weapon. Considering Edward’s friendly demeanor, he would prefer having a Squirtle since it has a flair for adventure and is a great companion.
9 Shay Cormac - Ekans
In the matter of Cormac, the one who was a turncoat and betrayed the Assassin Order, it makes sense to pair him with a snake. That’s because Cormac himself was a snake who used the assassins’ secrets against them.
Ekans’ attacks are poisonous when considering lethal ramifications, something Cormac would love to employ against enemies as it would also give him the satisfaction of victory to see his victims suffer. Plus, those who hate Cormac’s character can get a kick out of imagining him blasting off like the Ekans from Team Rocket did on the anime.
8 Ezio Auditore - Hitmonchan
Ezio became known as the mentor of the assassins, being responsible for starting a number of chains across Europe where his students trained to develop more assassins. With this kind of coach-like mentality, we see Ezio having a Hitmonchan to complement his efforts.
Of course, in this scenario, Hitmonchan would be trained to use blades instead of boxing, but the idea remains the same. Knowing Ezio, he would train an entire group of Hitmonchan to act as his extended creed.
7 Evie Frye - Togepi
Being a caring, nurturing individual who only completed assassinations as a last resort and was always open to fostering relationships, Evie deserves to have a Pokémon she can keep close to her chest. Her character wasn’t one to make animals fight for her, so we can imagine her keeping Togepi around just for companionship.
Evie also took the toll of killing people straight to her emotions, which means having Togepi around her would serve to calm Evie down, thereby easing her conscience.
6 Jacob Frye - Meowth
The other Frye twin was nowhere near as sensitive as his sibling, and Edward had a real mischievous streak to him. He wouldn’t be content with a Pokémon who simply stuck around him repeating the same word, so a Meowth would be perfect for him.
We’re talking specifically about the Meowth that speaks here, as Edward would relish having a companion who shares his taste for mischievousness. Meowth would be the one Edward would send in to ambush his target before completing the assassination himself.
5 Kassandra - Onix
Being the true protagonist of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Kassandra had a fiery spirit that had her battle opponents even when the odds were stacked against her. She generally didn’t rely on stealth, instead launching a straight-on assault.
This is why the towering Onix would be the best Pokémon for her, as this one symbolizes strength and power, both of which would complement Kassandra’s characterization. Since Odyssey was predominantly set in the mountains, having a rock-type Pokémon makes sense.
4 Desmond Miles - Bulbasaur
The man who was a reluctant assassin, Desmond had some spirit in him to go ahead with his fate. Still, he was one who wanted to create life rather than end it, and Bulbasaur being a grass-type Pokémon would provide Desmond this.
Desmond wouldn’t be thinking about big battles or destructive potential with Bulbasaur. Instead, he would hone the Pokémon’s skills and would enjoy seeing Bulbasaur create plants and wreaths. They would make for a formidable team, one that valued friendship above all else.
3 Bayek - Pikachu
Speaking of friendship, here’s an assassin who only ever wanted to have the peace of companionship. Bayek’s son was killed right before his eyes, and the poor guy never found anyone to share his grief with.
With a Pokémon like Pikachu, who is known for remaining loyal till the end, Bayek would have that lovable companion who would provide him with comfort when he was most down. He would definitely get the best out of Pikachu’s powers, although we see Bayek keeping Pikachu around mainly for emotional support.
2 Connor Kenway - Charizard
Until the end, Connor remained an angry man who had a rebellious fire stirring in his chest. He wouldn’t think of strategy as much as relying on his sheer talent as an assassin. And for the most part, this style worked for him as he bulldozed through his enemies.
The destructive and erratic Charizard would be Connor’s greatest ally in this regard, as the latter could use Charizard to steamroll entire armies. Connor would never try to tame Charizard, he’d train to the Pokémon to unlock its most deadly potential.
1 Altair - Pidgeot
Easily the wisest assassin in the series, we can’t picture Altair using a Pokémon for fighting purposes, at least not all the time. In its place, he would most likely use something like Pidgeot to act as his eyes where he himself couldn’t be.
Altair would train Pidgeot to travel great distances and scout enemies to report back to him. His relationship with his Pokémon would be on equal grounds, and the Pidgeot would be the choice for him to remain one step ahead of the Templars.
