As more and more people appear to be losing interest in Fortnite, Ninja suggests Epic adopt Warzone’s Gulag idea. The battle royale genre has quickly become a crowded one. New battle royale titles, or existing games that add a battle royale mode, need to set themselves apart from their competitors. Call of Duty is one of the few titles that probably didn’t need to do that. Ninjala is a free to play battle royale brawler recently released on the Nintendo Switch, featuring small maps and game modes up to eight people. The free-to-play title offers a lot in terms of cosmetics and even a battle pass. Nintendo has just shadow-dropped another Direct Mini Partner Showcase, which contains new announcements & release dates for upcoming Switch games from third-party developers. Here’s everything that happened during the presentation. Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory The first announcement was a release date for Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory, which is a rhythm game that uses songs and locations from the Kingdom Hearts series. Nutaku, an adult gaming platform located in Montréal that offers games with mature content, has surpassed the 60 million player registration mark with 15 million users added since last January. The company, which focuses on browser, downloadable and mobile games, is celebrating the milestone by launching the Now I Nutaku campaign, which features a series of safe-for-work ads. The Now I Nutaku tagline is intended to reinforce the company’s position as an inclusive adult entertainment brand....

Earlier this year, it was announced that Nvidia would be launching its midrange RTX 3060 cards soon, and that they would be slapped with a cheaper price tag compared to its higher end range. NZXT, the gaming PC company, has officially changed its warranty in a way that could affect a lot of gamers and PC enthusiasts. The new version of the warranty allows users to enable XMP, or Extreme Memory Profiles. The technology lets users change the memory settings on their PCs to get “higher than standard memory speeds.” XMP is an easier method of RAM overclocking, and NZXT acknowledges that manual methods are a “headache....

Oculus announced a plan today that would require Oculus VR set users to create or merge a Facebook account with their Oculus account. Facebook purchased Oculus in March 2014 for 3.2 billion dollars in cash and stock, and the announcement is prompting fans to bring up Facebook’s history of mismanaging user data. Facebook has purchased various media companies in the last decade. Facebook purchased Instagram in 2012 and WhatsApp in 2014, leading to the integration of Facebook profiles with Instagram and one of the largest data scandals in 2018....

Oculus Rift pre-orders are now available, revealing the delivery of initial shipments in March and a $599 starting price – a price that’s already brewing controversy. As previously announced, pre-orders for the Oculus Rift VR headset have gone live as of 8:00am Pacific Time. Coinciding with pre-orders opening up were several previously unrevealed details regarding the Oculus Rift, including: price, release window, and bundled devices. The official price alone stunned prospective pre-orderers, with the Rift to cost $599 USD and an additional $30 USD in shipping on top of that....

The recent cancellation of P.T. spiritual successor Allison Road came as a surprise to some, but find out why one writer thinks the game was doomed from the start. As someone that is a big fan of the horror genre in gaming, I was devastated last year when I learned that Konami cancelled Silent Hills. With how long gaming has been around, it’s difficult to find a game with a totally unique concept, especially in the AAA space. But that’s not to say all indie games are a bastion of creativity, and there’s a reason for that. Video games are hard to make, and it’s even hard to make a good one. This should come as much of a surprise, but what might is how many good games take “inspiration” from ones that came before....

Since the beginning of internet gaming, there have been players who take their competitive nature too far and become abusive. Finding a way to ensure that games are free of this kind of overly-competitive (or downright hateful) rhetoric has been a challenge for developers. Blizzard, for its part, has deployed AI and machine learning to police game chats in Overwatch—and it seems to be working. Monitoring and policing chat seems to be a focal point this year—if not a priority....

The director of Overwatch, Jeff Kaplan, opens up about redesigning Symmetra and some of the newer additions still to come to the popular competitive title. Blizzard’s latest animated short for its multiplayer FPS Overwatch is now available, with “Dragons” telling the story of Hanzo and Genji’s complicated relationship. With Overwatch’s roster of playable characters totaling to twenty one and with plans existing to increase that number in the future, Blizzard has to get creative in order to introduce each Hero to players. Some heroes are featured in short comic strips, and some are featured on Taco Bell special edition soda cups, but Blizzard’s favorites star in Overwatch’s high quality animated shorts....

When I practice conversations in my head about why I’m switching from Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition to Pathfinder Second Edition, they always go the same way. Hypothetical people ask me, “what does Pathfinder 2 offer than D&D doesn’t?” And my answer is always the same: player options. Character customization. And that’s what the Advanced Player’s Guide is all about. Pathfinder 2e’s APG is overflowing with new character concepts for anyone who’s outgrown the (many) options in the Core Rulebook, and is going to inspire any player with a dozen new character concepts before they’re even halfway through the book....

Paizo recently revealed the new Strength of Thousands Adventure Path for Pathfinder Second Edition on the Paizo Blog. The monthly, six-part Adventure Path is currently scheduled for release on the Paizo webstore in July 2021. The announcement also presented the party of accomplished authors working on developing the Strength of Thousands (SoT) Adventure Path, along with which of the six-part path they’re working on.
