Overwatch Contenders introduced The Gauntlet in 2019. The best teams from each region competed in a Korean-based tournament to determine who was the best tier two team around. It was Element Mystic that took home the title during the inaugural tournament. Now, the Contenders 2020 year looks to finish strong by brining back The Gauntlet, this time with some changes to match the 2020 landscape. Unlike last year’s Gauntlet, this year will feature four different regions battling it out amongst themselves: Asia, South America, Europe and North America....

Overwatch game director Jeff Caplan says that the development team are currently conducting ‘internal experiments’ in regards to balance changes for Widowmaker. Now that Blizzard’s Overwatch has been out for a few weeks, millions of players have had plenty of time to try out each of the 21 different heroes currently available in the game. While the game has been nothing short of a resounding success, there have been some issues regarding certain heroes being excessively overpowered or unbalanced....

In an post on the Overwatch blog, Blizzard reveals upcoming patch notes which not only bring changes to competitive play, but also introduces a number of character changes. It’s been a busy few months for Overwatch as the shooter has seen a new character, new summer games event, and season one of its competitive mode all arrive over the past couple of months. As season one of ranked play comes to a close after today, Blizzard is currently hard at work on a brand new patch which aims to finally balance out its character roster and introduce a number of changes to the seasonal competitive mode....

Keeping the momentum with February 3rd’s release of the tank class front-liner Yagorath, nearly a month later Paladins announces another new hero, bringing the already extensive character roster to 48. Complete with a stylish reveal trailer, Octavia The Indomitable aims to bring additional long-range combat options to Paladins through her kit revolving around a scoped rifle type weapon. This update comes in the wake of a series of announcements by Hi-Rez promoting several title updates planned for Smite, Rogue Company, and Paladins, each having a plethora of new content to look forward to in the coming year....

With the release of Mortal Kombat 11’s Aftermath expansion, dataminers have been poring over the new code looking for any potential leak opportunities. So far, at least one future Mortal Kombat 11 character has been leaked as a result. Leakers now appear to have found another interesting detail to share just recently. It’s not as substantial as a leaked DLC character, but it might turn into something exciting. That being code referring to a secret Mortal Kombat 11 fight for the Arcade Ladder....

During the ESL Mortal Kombat X Pro League season 2 finals over the weekend, NeatherRealm Studios teases fans with a quick look at Triborg’s fourth variation: Cyber Sub-Zero. After going dark for a few months, NeatherRealm Studios surprised fans with a trailer for Kombat Pack 2 during the Game Awards, which includes four additional characters for their popular fighting game, Mortal Kombat X. One of the characters, Triborg, is actually three legacy robot characters from various past games all rolled into one....

Independent video game developer Angela Game and publisher Imperium Interactive Entertainment recently announced an incoming Early Access phase for Myth of Empires, a multiplayer sandbox game focused on survival and warfare. The announcement was accompanied by the usual Steam Page listing and an announcement trailer, with the game’s planned release date listed as TBA. According to the Steam Page info, Angela Game plans to run Myth of Empires’ Early Access phase for 12 months, barring any compelling delays....

A new report catalogs the experiences of several sources who’ve worked at Uncharted and The Last of Us developer Naughty Dog, revealing how the studio expects and encourages crunch culture. Souces described 70-hour weeks, 14-hour days, and crunch periods that could last as long as six months, all overseen by management that expected the overtime and made little or no effort to encourage workers to maintain healthy lifestyles. A key point made throughout the report is that employees were always given an implied choice....

Out of all the anime projects Netflix has announced recently, one of the more recognizable names in the list was a spin-off of Pacific Rim. The show, set in a post-apocalyptic Australia, is set to premiere as a Netflix exclusive and the streaming service has just released a new trailer, along with official word of when the show will finally be available. The original Pacific Rim was a 2013 film directed by Guillermo Del Toro in which larger than life robots fought against huge monsters called Kaiju....

Netflix may have just jumped the gun a bit. In a now-deleted tweet on its “NX on Netflix” Twitter account, the streaming giant teased an upcoming 3D Sonic the Hedgehog animated series set to release in 2022. The announcement was only up for a short time, but had already gotten the attention of thousands of excited fans before being taken down. “Rings? Check. Sneakers? Check. Speed? SONIC. SEGA’s legendary video game icon Sonic the Hedgehog races onto Netflix in a new 3D animated series from @SEGA, @WildBrainHQ and @ManOfActionEnt premiering in 2022....

Electronic Arts is hosting its Summer Showcase this evening where it’ll highlight and present several of its upcoming core franchise games including Mass Effect (where there will be a new announcement), Battlefield 3: Armored Kill, Medal of Honor Warfighter, FIFA 13, Madden NFL 13, The Sims 3, and as we know now, the new Army of Two game, Army of TWO: The Devil’s Cartel. Rumors from late last year pointed towards Electronic Arts utilizing DICE’s Frostbite 2 engine to develop a third franchise installment titled Army of Four, with the obvious idea of expanding the series’ trademark co-op experience to four players....

Twisted Metal. Those two words immediately evoke a rush of memories for many gamers. The series has its roots in the original PlayStation and debuted only a couple months after the console was available to consumers. The video game industry has changed dramatically since then, but Twisted Metal has managed to survive all these years and is reinventing itself with a new entry later this fall. Set to “So Happy Together” by the Turtles, the latest Borderlands 3 trailer promotes co-op, togetherness, and friendship, with it released today during Gearbox’s “Celebration of Togetherness” event. Sadly, many had thought that this event would announce cross-play for the forthcoming looter shooter threequel, but Randy Pitchford shot this down just before the event. Pitchford did expresses interest in the beloved feature, though, but clarified that there would no cross-play in Borderlands 3 at launch....

A glut of new job listings that have been posted on Naughty Dog’s website suggest that a new game is in the pipeline by the celebrated developer of Uncharted and The Last of Us. Teaming up with PlayStation for its 2007 release, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, the developer went on to produce further titles in the acclaimed Uncharted series, as well as the record breaking The Last of Us (parts one and two)....

After being announced two years ago, Spider-Man has easily become one of E3 2018’s most highly anticipated games. Other than showing a gameplay trailer at last year’s E3, Insomniac Games has shared very little about their upcoming game starring the web-slinger. Thankfully, the studio has now given fans additional gameplay at Sony’s E3 2018 press briefing. Fans can get a look at the latest trailer for Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man directly below, which is set at the underwater prison for enhanced individuals known as The Raft....

Studio Wildcard releases a single patch note for the upcoming update for ARK: Survival Evolved, revealing that it adds split-screen to the Xbox One version of the game. Right before ARK: Survival Evolved landed on Xbox One, Studio Wildcard announced that an early 2016 update would add split-screen to the game. While we’re still not sure when that update is coming, we do know that the next update for ARK: Survival Evolved will be the one to add the hotly anticipated split-screen functionality....

EA Sports’ process to distribute ratings to NHL players is mysterious, and despite the company’s efforts to explain their numbers, it remains mostly unclear. For all we know, the development team offers sacrifices of gold to an elderly wizard, in exchange for his vision of this year’s players ratings. And year after year, the results are dubious at best. A lot of importance seems to be given to a player’s reputation, no matter how much he has slowed down over the year, while younger players need to prove themselves over many seasons before their rating reflects their talent… unless your name is Connor McDavid, of course....
