All eyes are on developers as both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X get closer to their release, prompting many to wonder which games will be developed on the next-generation consoles. NetherRealm Studios may have made the first move, indicating future Mortal Kombat and Injustice games coming to next-gen systems. NetherRealm Studios posted a job listing for a principal software engineer for graphics. Although job listings can be vague and sometimes do not directly correlate to new game titles, this job listing is possibly focusing on developing games on next-generation consoles....

Off the back of news that Sony will be holding a PlayStation 5 event for new games next week, a surprising reveal was also made. The reveal has to do with Sony’s plans for PS4 games released between July and the PS5’s launch holiday 2020. According to a new report, Sony is requiring that all PS4 games released from July 13 on have built-in PS5 forward compatibility. As in, any PS4 games that gamers buy after mid-July will also run on PS5 if they eventually upgrade their console....

PlayStation Plus Extra ($14.99, €13.99, or £10.99 monthly): Adds a catalogue of around 400 PS4 and PS5 games to play, downloadable for offline access. It looks like we now know where Tyler “Ninja” Blevins is going to hang his hat for the foreseeable future. One of the main draws for Overwatch is learning the ins and outs of its diverse cast. Blizzard’s team-based shooter includes hero playstyles fit for veteran and casual gamers. As a way to test some unique kit changes, professional players have curated an Experimental Mode to test for an Overwatch League Tournament. Blizzard is officially kicking off the first season of the Overwatch League on January 10 with three different matchups between teams comprised of the top players in the world. The big new mechanic coming to Monster Hunter Rise that sets it apart from previous titles in the series is the Wirebug that adds a whole new level of complexity to combat. These new movement and attack options in Monster Hunter Rise, may be building a whole new way for players to interact with the monsters that roam around the areas during a hunt. Interestingly, this new addition to Monster Hunter Rise might make finding multiple large monsters in the same area more of an asset to players than a liability, as they had been in the past....

It’s only been a week since Capcom introduced Lunastra to Monster Hunter World and they’re already back with another addition that’s certain to please the game’s hardcore fans. This latest minor update offer players a new quest to run, the game’s first set of “gamma” armor, and the very first “Arch-Tempered” version of an existing monster, which just so happens to be everyone’s favorite electric unicorn, Kirin. Monster Hunter World’s newest quest, “A Whisper of White Mane,” went live today at 6pm PT....

Since Bethesda Studios was purchased by Microsoft last year, fans have wondered what the acquisition would mean for beloved franchises such as The Elder Scrolls and Fallout. Microsoft will answer some of those questions in a video presentation scheduled later this week. Officials in the U.S. and Europe recently approved Microsoft’s acquisition of ZeniMax Media, making Bethesda an official Xbox studio. When the acquisition went public last September, PlayStation players began to worry if it would result in future Bethesda games becoming Xbox exclusives....
