One of the biggest appeals of Blizzard’s Overwatch is the ability to choose between a variety of heroes; each of which is mostly distinct from one another. These characters often control and feel unique in terms of mechanics, and each has their own set of fun abilities and weapons to dominate foes with. This vast array of moves and powers in the arena makes for a fun, frantic time. Not only this, but all of the 30-plus heroes come with distinguishable personalities, physical traits, and mostly separate backstories....

Mobile games are big business, and with Chinese conglomerate Tencent at the helm of the industry, there’s no doubt the company is hoping for a hit with Ace Force, a mobile-based Overwatch clone available in China in Aug. 12. But despite early notions that the game is essentially the Overwatch mobile port that fans have always wanted, it appears to include one genius addition: a dog-based battle royale mode. On July 29, digital games industry analyst Daniel Ahmad shared an Ace Force trailer, which shows Overwatch-esque maps and characters reminiscent of Overwatch’s Soldier: 76, Reinhardt and Pharah....

It’s been a few weeks since Blizzard confirmed that Overwatch hero Symmetra is getting a full rework. One eager player took to the official Blizzard forums to request an update on those changes, and Overwatch lead designer Geoff Goodman delivered. There were no visuals to share, as Goodman stated in his response, but he did briefly touch on two of Symmetra’s most recent changes, and how the test team has been using them in-game....

Overwatch has proven itself a resilient online competitive title in the era of Fortnite and battle royale, with part of the reason being Blizzard’s consistent updates and seasonal events. Speaking of which, just weeks after the Halloween event has wrapped up, Blizzard is now announcing Overwatch’s annual holiday-themed Winter Wonderland event, complete with official start and end dates. Overwatch posted a brief, five-second teaser for its 2018 Winter Wonderland event, the caption reading, “Snow off your holiday spirit....

Pacer is a nostalgic-feeling arcade style racer that is a true spiritual successor to the likes of Wipeout. The game is pretty much perfect for fans of an older era of arcadey racers, but compared to options like Mario Kart or Crash Team Racing, it opts for a less cartoonish style and more complex subsystems. But while the game plays very well to its target audience, it may have trouble drawing in players who aren’t already fans of the older games that inspired it....

Gamers out adventuring in Monster Hunter World already had a chance to obtain an outfit stylized as Ryu from Street Fighter, a collaboration that surprised few given Capcom’s extensive crossover history. The studio stated that three quests to unlock a similar Sakura-inspired outfit would eventually be rotated in, and Capcom has now spilled the beans on when gamers will be able to unlock this outfit in Monster Hunter World. Gamers following a particular set of steps could obtain the Ryu gear set until March, but there has been a noticeable gap between Ryu’s challenges and Sakura’s rotation....

At the end of the day, Mortal Kombat is about a bunch of characters beating the crap out of each other for supremacy. Sure, they toss in stories about tournaments to protect Earth and wars against invading realms, but it all boils down to martial artists brutally punching the hell out of each other until one explodes into a pile of viscera and five ribcages. Being a fighting game, you expect all the fighters to be on the same level....

Today’s reveal that Mortal Kombat 11 is receiving a massive update with Aftermath is exciting news, featuring the return of Friendships, new stages, more story following the main campaign, and three DLC fighters. Although everything looks great and we cannot wait to play on May 26, the big question at this point that we must ask is — where the hell is Ash Williams from the Evil Dead franchise? This is not to say that the three fighters revealed today are not great, because they are....

Early Access for Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord continues to progress with routine updates from developer TaleWorlds Entertainment. To that end, TaleWorlds is also producing lengthy update videos that go in-depth regarding recent changes to Mount and Blade 2, as well as upcoming additions. The latest developer update introduces features including multiplayer Duel Mode, a new battle terrain selection system, and more. Understandably, the new multiplayer Duel Mode receives TaleWorlds’ focus in the trailer....

A sequel to the classic Nintendo 64 game Diddy Kong Racing by the name of Donkey Kong Racing was once going to be a thing. Earlier today, Frogwares escalated the ongoing feud with former publisher Nacon by issuing a DMCA takedown that brought The Sinking City off of Steam for the second time. This latest move comes after Frogwares accused Nacon of illegally altering The Sinking City’s code by purchasing it on another platform, hacking it, and then reuploading it on Steam under their name. Nacon’s response is to accuse Frogwares of “acting in bad faith” and to once again reiterate that Nacon has fulfilled their end of the developer/publisher bargain....

Fatigue is definitely starting to set in among avid indie gamers as dozens upon dozens of nostalgia-driven budget titles hoping to emulate the NES and SNES eras are thrust onto virtual store shelves each week. While that’s not to downplay the amazing pixel art or gameplay direction of some of these releases—games like Punch Club, Celeste, Stardew Valley, and The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth definitely deserve their spots in the annals of gaming history—it’s undoubtedly difficult to separate the digital wheat from the chaff at this point....

The Champions of Hyrule take center stage in the latest trailer for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, which was shown during the Tokyo Game Show 2020 digital event. In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the four Champions were the representatives of the races of Hyrule, who must pilot the mighty Divine Beasts in the battle against Calamity Ganon. They were slain during the Great Calamity and had their spirits bound to the Divine Beasts, and Link must free them from their imprisonment a century later in Breath of the Wild....

During today’s PlayStation 5 Showcase viewers got a closer look at Deathloop, Arkane’s upcoming PS5 timed-exclusive. The title was recently delayed but is still slated for a mid-2021 release. The new footage gave us a few minutes of gameplay, showing off fast-paced FPS action that relied on guns, telekinetic powers, and a whole lot of neck-snapping. The action begins in a snowy construction yard, which offers plenty of space for long-ranged shootouts – although the gameplay primarily focused on close quarters combat....

Blizzard Entertainment caused a stir when it announced Diablo Immortal for mobile devices at BlizzCon 2018, leading to an intense backlash that resulted in the company removing comments and dislikes from Diablo Immortal’s trailer. Despite this backlash, which included Activision Blizzard stock dropping around the time of its reveal, the MMO ARPG has continued its development, and a new trailer premiered today at ChinaJoy 2020. The two-and-a-half minute trailer, uploaded to Twitter by Niko Partners Senior Analyst Daniel Ahmad, shows off new gameplay that seems true to the style of classic Diablo games as well as cinematic introductions for the six classes that will be available at launch: Barbarian, Monk, Wizard, Crusader, Demon Hunter, and Necromancer....
