There was a time when the Need for Speed franchise was a guaranteed hit every year for Christmas before each yearly entry felt the same as the last one. The series, however, seemed to capitalize on the popularity of the Fast & Furious films and even came complete with equally cheesy storylines. However, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit from Criterion, the developer behind the popular Burnout series, was something of a reboot that focused on fun and speed over silly storylines and formulaic gameplay....

It’s been decades since arcade games and video consoles first appeared on the pop culture scene. The first Nintendo console appeared in North America in 1985, following the Japanese Famicom which had already been on the market for two years. Since then, some games have faded from the gaming scene, only to return years later in emulator form well after the physical cartridges were erased from existence. There are some games that exist only in emulator form and there are others that are simply extremely rare or priced out of most consumers’ reaches....

For the time being, and much to Disney’s dismay, Netflix remains the biggest streaming service in the world in 2020. In a year where most people were forced to spend a lot more time at home than ever before, Netflix saw a reasonable increase in its user base, a small price hike, and a year-to-year +50% growth of its stock. Also part of the reason why Netflix has grown this year is the fact that its productions are not hindered in any way by the effects of the pandemic....

In Darksiders II’s ongoing battle between angels and demons, ironically it’s Death who rises as humanity’s last hope. Death comes for all - but only to preserve life. Beyond the basic premise, however, the nebulous nature of Death’s impending destiny, as well as the confirmed roles of Strife and Fury - the other two Horsemen of the Apocalypse - remains a large mystery in Darksiders II. THQ may decide to keep it that way until the game releases on August 14, but they’ve released a brand new trailer and the screens below to help better acquaint us with the unseemly savior....

Assassin’s Creed: Blade of Shao Jun is an upcoming manga developed by Viz Media in collaboration with Ubisoft. It will tell a new story of Shao Jun – from Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China – as they embark on a quest for revenge and seek out a mysterious treasure belonging to the Brotherhood. The manga will be available on February 16 in both print and digital formats for $14.99. It’s authored by Minoji Kurata, the same person behind the Assassin’s Creed: China manga from 2019, along with several other publications available only in Japan....

Since it has been three months since the last trailer for Code Vein was released, it may not be a surprise that a new trailer has recently emerged. In it, publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment highlights the visuals of the underworld, which fits the game’s darker tones. Moreover, the trailer has some powerful voiceovers. It states the main character is a Revenant, which is immortal, yet they have the chance of becoming one of the Lost....

February is for lovers. But with its list of new releases for February 2023, Netflix is unveiling another season of arguably its least romantic show. That’s right: Joe is returning in You season 4 part 1 on Feb. 9. This time around our central stalker played by Penn Badgley is across the pond in jolly old England, living an unassuming life as a bearded professor and looking for his next target....

Square Enix announces that the next Final Fantasy 15 Active Time Report livestream will take place on Saturday, January 30, promising to showcase new footage of battle. The new Final Fantasy 15 details that were promised earlier have finally been given a release date, and Square Enix will be hosting a livestream on January 30 to discuss new elements of the game’s combat and gameplay mechanics. Game director Hajime Tabata and marketing director Akio Ofuji will appear during the event, which Square has promised will “showcase the latest battle footage and scenes of magic”, as well as provide updates on the March Final Fantasy 15 event that is expected to finally give the title its long-awaited release date....

Even when it first debuted in 2016, Oxenfree was already a highly anticipated game. Now, after five years, the community and support surrounding the game has only grown and prospered. The game follows the story of Alex, a young, rebellious teenager who brings her new stepbrother to a party on a decommissioned military island. She grew up visiting there, but this visit is different from all the others, as she accidentally opens a ghost rift....

After numerous complaints were submitted after No Man’s Sky’s launch in August, Advertising Standards Authority has launched an investigation into the game’s advertising. After years of building hype, No Man’s Sky launched last month to less-than-stellar reviews from both critics and gamers. In fact, disappointment was so significant that major retailers provided thousands of refunds for players who felt unsatisfied with their experience. Unfortunately for Hello Games, it seems the backlash for No Man’s Sky isn’t quite finished yet....

Since No Man’s Sky launched in the summer of 2016, developer Hello Games has gone to some lengths to update the game, adding fan-requested features. This includes the Atlas Rises update which added more than 30 hours of story content, as well as light multiplayer features that allow up to 16 players to have small interactions within the game world. The next update to the game, called No Man’s Sky Next, appears to be the most substantial yet....

Ever since No More Heroes 3 was announced at Nintendo’s E3 Direct last year, fans have been eagerly awaiting their first look at the upcoming title from video game auteur Goichi “Suda51” Suda. While the game’s developer, Grasshopper Manufacturer, has been silent on the upcoming title for almost a year now, with the exception of an animated trailer unveiled at the 2019 Game Awards, the game’s release date remains slated for some point in 2020....

In The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, there are things a player can do that will provide nice benefits in the future; planting Magic Beans is one of them. Each Zelda game comes with its own plot, and this particular game is divided by time travel. Basically, people either play as young Link, or Link seven years in the future. By planting the Magic Beans, players are providing future Link with some handy shortcuts....

If you recently picked up the popular Oculus Quest 2 VR headset, you can rest easy knowing it won’t be replaced any time soon. According to Andrew Bosworth – VP of Facebook Reality Labs – the Oculus Quest 2 Pro is already in development, although it won’t see the light of day until at least 2022. Good news and bad news for Oculus Rift faithful, today. The good news is that the Oculus Rift officially launched today, with press embargoes dropping pertaining to the Oculus Rift hardware and its launch line-up of over 30 games. The bad news is, oddly enough, that despite the Rift launching today, shipments for pre-orderers have not yet begun and may not arrive until the end of this week at the earliest....
