I’m not quite sure who Nightbooks is for. As marketed, the latest Netflix original film appears to be a fantasy-driven horror film for kids and tweens. But the movie itself, which deals with themes of child abuse and features some objectively terrifying monsters, may be too dark for that demographic. This can be an issue with book-to-film adaptations. What works for kids in a literary format can sometimes be too scary once brought to life on-screen....

The nominees for all 23 categories of the 2021 Academy Awards have been announced following one of the strangest years in movie history. The Overwatch Archives seasonal event will take place this week, Blizzard announced today. It will be the fifth annual run for the event since the game’s launch in 2016. The Archives seasonal event will go live on April 6 and will run through April 27. Previous Archives-exclusive PvE modes will be available for players to revisit during that time, including Uprising, Retribution, and Storm Rising. Each year, Blizzard has put out a new story-focused PvE mode during this event; no word yet on what this year’s mission will be....

Moonbase 8 might, by virtue of its title, evoke imagery from unintentionally-funny early-post-Star Wars cash-in sci-fi from a bell-bottoms-brandishing yesteryear such as space base farce Saturn 3, but the comedy is assuredly intentional in the case of the Showtime series, which has just released its full trailer and a November release date. Intriguingly, Moonbase 8 is a six-episode half-hour astronaut comedy series that’s not even set in space, instead set in the final frontier of the Arizona desert, following the training exploits of bumbling NASA wannabees played by an auspicious comedy collective in John C....

Square Enix sure knows how to tease its fans and keep them hopeful for future events. The publisher/developer announced (re-announced?) Final Fantasy 15 at E3 2013 and has been spacing out new information and videos over the last several months. It’s arguably one of the company’s most anticipated games, alongside Kingdom Hearts III, and many expected the pair of games to appear at E3 2015 next month at Square’s own conference....

Nintendo might have abandoned the EarthBound/Mother franchise, but the fans are keeping it alive with the help of an unofficial Nintendo Direct that promotes fanmade projects that are based on or inspired by the series. The Mother series of RPGs (localized outside of Japan as EarthBound) are some of the most beloved games ever produced by Nintendo, but there is no denying that the company hasn’t shown much love for it outside of Japan....
