First hitting Japan in 1983 and American markets later in 1985, the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) brought 8-bit gaming to players everywhere. It emerged victorious from the North American video game crash of 1983 and helped cement Nintendo as a household name. During its twenty-year run, the NES sold over 34 million units in the Americas and over 61.91 units worldwide. Alongside, its games also sold astronomical amounts. DOTA: Dragon’s Blood is an animated Netflix original series that explores the world of Valve’s popular MOBA Defense of the Ancients. With a screenplay written by Ashley Edward Miller, who was one of the original writers of Thor and X-Men: First Class, along with a star-studded voice cast featuring actors Yori Lowenthal, Lara Pulver, and Troy Baker, there was a lot going right for DOTA’s debut on March 25th. The series follows Davion, The Dragon Knight, and Princess Mirana, two heroes from the original games whom by circumstance, come at odds with the demon, Terrorblade, also a popular DOTA champion, though one who seeks to absorb the power of Eldwurm dragons to reshape the world to his name....

Debuting officially on August 20, 2020, Battletoads will finally be returning after a 26-year hiatus, with Dlala Studios teaming up with Rare to bring back the esteemed beat-em-up franchise. The game itself is sporting a much different art style, with the team opting to lean more into a retro cartoon aesthetic, yet, the core gameplay itself doesn’t seem to have skipped a beat. However, those looking for a more detailed look at the upcoming reboot are in luck, with Rare posting a 20-minute deep dive on its YouTube channel that pries further into what makes the reboot both a fun reinvention and nostalgic revisit of the classic franchise....

Season 4 Reloaded hits Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone on Thursday and Activision has updated its blog with everything you can expect when the update goes live. For Black Ops Cold War, expect the bulk of the patch to be spent on Zombies. We got a teaser of the coming Mauer der Toten Zombies map last week with new weapons like the CRBR-S Wonder Weapon and the LT53 Kazimir grenade along with lots of changes to zombie health and armor that will totally change up the Zombies meta....

New Pokemon Snap has a layered scoring system that - once you understand it - is fairly simple. There are four different star ratings, but these don’t determine quality so much as they do behaviour. Snap Pichu chilling? That’s one star. Capture it leaping out of a flower patch with a crown of petals? That’s a four star. There’s then various categories you’re scored in, and they determine a picture’s overall value - but this system doesn’t always lead to good photographs....

Physical video game collectors tuning into yesterday’s Limited Run Games live stream were surprised to hear that WayForward Technologies is working on a follow-up to last year’s indie beat-em’-up River City Girls. River City Girls, which is a spin-off of the classic beat-em’-up franchise River City Ransom, launched in August 2019 and was quickly followed up with a physical release by Limited Run Games. The game was a success with fans and critics, bringing WayForward’s trademark anime charm to the River City Ransom franchise in an entry bursting with personality which followed Misako and Kyoko, the girlfriends of the original games’ Kunio and Ricki, as they beat their way through River City in order to rescue their boyfriends....

Sega recently reignited hope in the Sonic fanbase, as a new mainline title was teased. However, an unintended consequences of revealing this game was that it actually confirmed some leaks that came out months earlier, already giving us an idea of what the next Sonic game could look like. Accounts purporting to come from three individuals who tested a then unannounced Sonic game are circulating online, as they bare a striking resemblance to what we saw in the trailer....

Platinum Games teases on Twitter that the ‘official leak’ for the long-rumored Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Mahattan will take place tomorrow. Following months of leaks and speculation, Platinum Games has finally acknowledged Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan. The company announced today via Twitter that the video game will be officially unveiled at some point tomorrow, January 26th. What this reveal will entail is anyone’s guess, but it seems likely that it will come in the form of a trailer....

Sony Interactive Entertainment and Team Ico officially release brand new screenshots for the PlayStation 4’s forthcoming action-adventure game The Last Guardian. Once it was revealed that The Last Guardian was going to be a survivor of development hell, fans of the action-adventure title understandably rejoiced, as the game has already been in production and a part of public knowledge for roughly seven years total. Even so, while Team Ico’s follow-up to the excellent Shadow of the Colossus still exists and has a solid launch date for this October, a couple of months have passed since fans have received any information regarding the release....

A new video by YouTuber Maniak Gaming directly compares an Xbox Series X console to other game consoles, showing off just how large the Series X truly is. The overall form-factor of the Xbox Series X is very different for a game console, and looks rather strange when looked at when compared to other systems. It looks more like a gaming PC or a router (or a mini-fridge, as many have joked) rather than a console, as some users on Twitter have pointed out....

Nintendo fans are enduring the longest drought between Directs in recent history. Now that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been released, there are currently no more first-party Nintendo titles with solid release dates for the Switch in 2020. So far, 2020 has seen mini Directs for games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s DLC, and Pokémon Sword & Shield, as well as an Indie presentation earlier in March, but there hasn’t been a full Direct this year....

As seems to be the case with every Overwatch event, a new leak appears to spoil all of the new skins planned to be introduced in Anniversary 2018. A post on Reddit claims that the leaks came via a Taiwanese Overwatch fan club, from someone who had early access to the game’s Anniversary event. Eleven new skins will be featured in the event, with three Epic quality skins and eight of Legendary quality....
