A few months back, it was reported that the team working on System Shock 3 at OtherSide Entertainment was “no longer employed” by the company, effectively killing the project. While the loss of the game was sad, it was sadder that a bunch of talented developers were now out of work. Thankfully, not everything is rotten in the state of Denmark. In a post on the studio’s forums, OtherSide Boston VP of marketing and business Walter Somol updated fans about the fate of the studio....

Activision Blizzard is currently under investigation following accusations of harassment, discrimination, and fostering a hostile work environment. You can read more about the investigation here. Overwatch 2 proved to be a somewhat surprising hit out of the gate, but big debuts only tell part of a live service game’s story. What matters most is often what happens after such games enjoy a strong debut. So far as that goes, Overwatch 2‘s second season could tell us a lot about the game’s long-term success....

NetherRealm Studios continues to show tremendous dedication to one of the best fighting games of last year, Mortal Kombat 11. It’s important to remember that an infinite combo isn’t necessarily an easy win. Jonathan Cooper, an animator for Naughty Dog and a developer on Mass Effect 1, has weighed in on the controversy surrounding Mass Effect: Andromeda’s facial animations. On social media, the developer explains why it’s “unfair” to compare an RPG like BioWare’s latest title to a game like Uncharted, as animating an RPG is a “really, really big undertaking.” In a series of tweets (threaded, beginning with the tweet below), Cooper says that the “magnitude” of choices offered in an RPG like Mass Effect: Andromeda means that there is a trade-off of quantity versus quality of the content....

NBA 2K21 developer Visual Concepts reveals just how quickly the game will load on PS5. Visual Concepts and 2K Sports announced NBA 2K21 at the PS5 reveal event yesterday, giving fans their first, in-engine look at the next edition in the hugely popular basketball series. In an extended version of the NBA 2K21 trailer shown at the PS5 reveal event, New Orleans Pelicans power forward and 2K Games spokesman Zion Williamson talked to Visual Concepts co-founder Greg Thomas about the game....

2015 has been a mixed year for the barcode marked hitman known as Agent 47. Initial impressions of the latest title in the assassination franchise, creatively titled Hitman, were primarily of shoulder shrugs and head scratching. The game is said to be an “ever evolving” title that will be supported by missions released after the title launches, leading many to accuse the game of being a DLC-reliant cash grab. On top of this, Hitman: Agent 47, the latest cinematic interpretation of the Hitman franchise, received less than stellar reviews and bombed at the box office....

Niantic has pledged to donate “a minimum” of $5 million from sales of this year’s GO Fest tickets to black AR creators and communities. People will look back on 2020 as a year that changed the world. First for the worldwide COVID-19 outbreak, and now for the protests against institutional racism as people around the world show their support for the Black Lives Matter movement. Hopefully, when this year is over, it will be remembered as one that changed the world for the better....

Watch yourselves, Splatoon 2 players. Nintendo sees you, trying to hack your way to playable Octolings early, and they have mixed feelings about the whole situation. You won’t like them when they’re angry, you really won’t. So, Splatoon 2 is approaching the first anniversary of its release. The game first dropped on July 21 2017, a few months after the Switch itself, and quickly become one of the jewels of the line-up....

Nioh’s aesthetic was incredible when the game launched back in February of 2017, and it gets another chance to impress its players with the recently released Remaster for the PlayStation 5 and PC. The dark fantasy spin Team Ninja put on the Sengoku period drove players to Nioh outside of its Soulslike gameplay mechanics. With that dark fantasy spin, they created some disgusting enemy designs and had the liberty of creating elegant and beautiful Guardian Spirit designs....

Sean Murray of Hello Games updates No Man’s Sky players regarding the various issues with the game, and promises that a patch is currently being worked on. Even before No Man’s Sky was released this week, developer Hello Games was still intent on improving the retail build of the game. The studio created a major update for day one of the space exploration title, to improve the overall quality of the product for players....

We’re almost two months into Season of the Splicer, and while Destiny 2 players aren’t quite as baby crazy as they were when baby Fallen were first introduced, they’re still making fan art and pining to save these adorable infant aliens from a racist cult of human survivors. Bungie already capitalized on the baby craze by coming out with a baby Fallen plushie in record time, and now they’ve handed over the baby Fallen license to Numskull Designs to do with as they please....

For the first time in what feels like ages, there’s some excitement to Oscar season. To be fair, “excitement” might be a relative word when most of the biggest Oscar contenders in 2022 are, again, movies that didn’t set the box office on fire. Nevertheless, after COVID and a painfully quiet Oscars where the Best Picture winner last year didn’t even gross $4 million in the States, a new awards season with general crowdpleasers in the running like Dune and West Side Story (for those who saw it) is an arguable breath of fresh air....

Today marks a big day for Overwatch fans. Not only is the new Blizzard World map now live in the game, but the latest update has also added over 100 new cosmetic items for players to unlock. And unlike many other new cosmetics added to the game since its launch in 2016, these aren’t tied to a limited-time event. Players can start unlocking the new cosmetics in Overwatch right now across all platforms....

Despite being part of the Overwatch roster since the game’s release a year ago, turret-building support character Symmetra has been relatively shortchanged when it comes to receiving new legendary skins compared to the game’s other 23 heroes. However, this appears to be changing soon as Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan has dropped a major tease that Symmetra will be receiving new skins at some point in the future. In response to a new Blizzard Forum question regarding new legendary skins for Symmetra, Kaplan strongly hinted that the character will be getting a new wardrobe, writing that “Symmetra fans will be very pleased soon....
