The movement to unionize the gaming industry landed a big win today. Workers at the Swedish strategy game publisher Paradox Interactive have secured a collective bargaining agreement with the company. This will give workers a larger say in how they’re treated, and how the company is run. While efforts to unionize are often met with pushback from employers, like when Delta encouraged its staff to buy video games instead of paying union dues, it seems like Paradox Interactive is completely onboard....

When it comes to Monster Hunter World, players can make the experience as surface level or as deep as they want. Some will be satisfied taking on a few monsters and then putting the game down, while others will grind out the same tempered elder dragons just to perfect their build even further. But creating the perfect build is a lot of work in Monster Hunter World, and the game’s menus are not all that intuitive or well put together....

On Sunday, Mortal Kombat 11 director, and series co-creator, Ed Boon announced that NetherRealm Studios would reveal the Mortal Kombat 11 DLC characters “next week,” news that was certainly welcomed by those that have been excitedly waiting for more MK11 characters to arrive. Now, it appears that an exact date for the reveal of the MK11 DLC characters has been set, and, in fact, it is right around the corner....

It’s been a little bit since Mortal Kombat X players have had some new content to sink their teeth in to, following the release of Tanya on June 2, 2015. Microsoft has announced that NASCAR Heat 5, Warhammer: Vermintide 2 And Space Crew Free will be available to play for free with Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate this weekend. Praxis Games has announced the first expansion for its turn-based 4X space strategy game Interstellar Space: Genesis. The Natural Law expansion will introduce two new races, each with their own unique characters, abilities, fleets, buildings, and colony headquarters. No release date has been set as of yet, but it is available on Steam for you to wishlist. The two new races coming with the Natural Law expansion are the Palacean Assembly and the Cerixx Sentinels....

Warning: contains spoilers for 4-episode series The Holiday. Four-part UK thriller The Holiday takes that premise and adds murder. Disappointingly, what it fails to also add are characters with traits other than ‘goes jogging’, ‘Swedish’ and ‘has beard’. Despite casting a solid lead in Jill Halfpenny, the characterisation in this series is thinner than an airline blanket. Halfpenny’s given little to work with as police officer Kate, who suspects that husband Sean (Owen McDonnell) is having an affair after finding texts between him and a mystery woman who may very well be one of her three university friends also on this trip to paradise/Malta....

It’s all a-go at Activision. Not only has news been dropping on Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare like there’s no tomorrow, including the announcement of a role for Kevin Spacey in the next installment of the bestselling series, but it looks as though two of the publisher’s major studios are merging up. Borderlands 3 players, meet the Yellowcake. This radioactive rocket launcher can one-shot powerful enemies and bosses, and players are loving it. The new gun was introduced to Borderlands 3 via the new free event Revenge of the Cartels, which has been allowing players to gain exclusive, powerful new guns. The weapon with the most hype is easily the Yellowcake, which shoots splitting projectiles that can quickly obliterate even the most powerful of enemies....

Another one bites the dust: New York Comic Con has officially canceled their in-person convention in favor of a digital one. Originally scheduled to run from October 8th through the 11th, New York Comic Con has been trying to hold on and stay optimistic about keeping their physical gathering a reality amid COVID closures. A brand new Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series is coming to Tokyo TV in 2017, with Yusaku Fujiki as the protagonist, and the potential for tie-in digital trading card games. A decade ago, one would have been hardpressed to find an anime series as popular as Yu-Gi-Oh! The anime was a hit with kids all over the world, in turn making the trading card game wildly popular. As has become an annual tradition for publisher Activision, the next installment of the Call of Duty franchise is gearing up for a reveal. The if was never in question; the April/May time frame has a longevity even Captain Price could admire. Today, however, an ostensible date for the announcement has finally been uncovered. According to IGN, retailers have been sent promotional materials for an upcoming Call of Duty game containing instructions to go on display May 1st....

At Microsoft’s E3 2018 presentation, Head of Xbox Phil Spencer teased that the next generation of Xbox consoles was already in development, but stopped short of providing any concrete details. There’s still much we don’t know about the next-gen Xbox console, but thanks to an interview Spencer gave to Japanese magazine Famitsu, we do know that Japanese developers are actively involved in its development. Spencer didn’t name any specific Japanese companies that are providing input for the next Xbox, but he did say that Microsoft has asked Japanese devs what kind of innovations they want to see in the industry that could be incorporated in the new system....

Ninja Gaiden director, Tomonobu Itagaki, has revealed that he has returned to game development with his new studio, Itagaki Games. The news was revealed via a post on his personal Facebook account. Itagaki had a major and public falling out with Tecmo in June 2008, after creating hits like Dead or Alive and the Ninja Gaiden Xbox reboots. He then founded Valhalla games along with a few of his former colleagues to develop Devil’s Third, Devil’s Third Online, and Momotaro Dentetsu 2017: Tachiagare Nippon....
