A bipartisan group of U.S. senators is asking Disney CEO Bob Chapek and Executive Chairman Robert Iger to explain the studio’s cooperation with the authorities in the Chinese autonomous region of Xinjiang during the production of the Mulan live-action remake, according to NBC News. Electronic Arts recently published a pilot briefing on its website detailing the Star Wars: Squadrons Ranks, Rewards, and Progression systems the game will have when it comes out of hyperspace this October. The briefing covers Challenges, Operations, Ranks, Levels, Glory, Experience, and Reputation. In the announcement, EA states players’ experience will center around challenges, operations, and level. Video game developer and publisher Bloober Team recently released some highly welcome news regarding the upcoming dystopian cyberpunk thriller Observer: System Redux. One, there is now a free next-gen demo of the game on Steam, and second, the game is still currently on track for a holiday 2020 release, despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. During the recent Gamescom Future Games Show, Bloober Team showcased the remaster work they’ve done on Observer with a video highlighting the next-gen tech being used, and the differences that’s making between the remaster and the original....
The Outer Worlds and Fallout: New Vegas developer Obsidian Entertainment has another secret project in development, it has been confirmed. Obsidian announced new fantasy RPG Avowed as part of the Xbox Games Showcase last month, but it seems that the developer is planning beyond that. On Twitter, Josh Sawyer, Obsidian Entertainment’s studio design director, made a post on Tumblr revealing how he oversees all of the projects at the developer. Sawyer said that he plays a team’s game “when they have important milestone builds or when someone on the team specifically wants my feedback on some new feature or piece of content....
Some really interesting content has been released online, showing some of the real-life textures which acted as inspiration for the original Half-Life game’s artists at Valve. The content drop comes in the form of a downloadable ZIP file containing folders of a whole range of photographs, presumably taken by Valve texture artist Karen Laur, who reportedly made almost all the textures for the original Half-Life game. If you check out the download yourself, you’ll see that there are folders labelled things like “deserts,““gasworks,” and “harbor island,” which contain photos evidently used to model the Earth-based objects and environments of the game after....
Announced at today’s Nintendo Direct, Outer Wilds will launch for the Switch this summer, bringing the 22-minute time looping adventure to Nintendo’s hit console. Not to be confused with The Outer Worlds, another renowned title that released in 2019, Outer Wilds launched to high critical acclaim. Taking place in an alternate reality, players assume the role of an unnamed astronaut that is tasked with finding the Eye of the Universe before the universe ends....
