Aden Gregory has been a professional sound engineer for many years, working on plenty of projects in the process, including Later… with Jools Holland for the BBC since 1992. He’s therefore heard a lot of music of dramatically varying styles over the years and is therefore a great subject for our “Music sounds better with…” series that we’ve been running in association with Cambridge Audio. We have had an eclectic mix of interviewees over the series, including Blur’s Alex James, drum and bass duo Sigma and 4Music presenter Miquita Oliver, and with Gregory’s answers on top of the others we’ve heard, the collection would make for a spectacular mixtape (or the digital equivalent)....

Netmarble, a South Korean mobile game developer, has announced that it has acquired a majority stake in Kung Fu Factory, the indie developer behind Mortal Kombat: Unchained, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, UFC Undisputed 2009, Adventure Time: Card Wars Sries, SpongeBob Moves In, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Rooftop Run, WWE Champions and NBA Ball Stars. Netmarble is currently South Korea’s largest mobile-gaming company. As of 2015, Netmarble had more than 3,000 employees in over 120 countries worldwide....

Cyberpunk 2077 fans that have been waiting to enter Night City will surely want to take the time to appreciate their surroundings when the game arrives, and it seems CD Projekt Red has them covered. Like many other big single-player titles, Cyberpunk 2077 is set to feature a detailed photo mode, with a new trailer just released to show it off. Microsoft announces a special Xbox One and Xbox One S promotion that allows gamers to get a free gift with the purchase of a new console that varies by retailer. Even though PlayStation 4 has mostly dominated the Xbox One in sales since the consoles launched in 2013, Microsoft went on a four month sales winning streak from July to October of this year. A combination of Xbox One console exclusive games, numerous bundles, and the release of the Xbox One S are likely the cause for this impressive streak, and it looks like Microsoft is trying to get back to its winning ways with its latest Xbox One sales promotion....

As if NieR: Automata wasn’t bizarre enough, a fan has discovered a way to skip to the game’s final cutscene after defeating the first boss. The “cheat code” was confirmed both by NieR’s director Yoko Taro and the official NieR Twitter account. Twitter user Lance McDonald uncovered the secret after “hundreds of hours of reverse engineering.” The method requires inputting a specific cheat code that was intentionally hard-coded into the game’s engine....

Oculus co-founder, Nate Mitchell, has revealed that his first game since leaving Oculus will likely not be VR. This may come as a shock to some given his prominent involvement in the field, but Mitchell assures fans that he is not leaving virtual reality behind entirely. Mitchell was the last co-founder of Oculus to leave the company, and went on to found Mountaintop Studios alongside some gaming industry veterans. Mountaintop Studios hasn’t announced any games yet, but it seems that fans can rule out a virtual reality game for the studio’s breakout title after Mitchell’s comments....

Sanzaru Games and Oculus sent out an unfortunate email this morning, announcing Marvel Powers United VR will be unplayable after March 1, 2021. You’ll still be able to keep playing up until that date, but come March 2 you’ll no longer have access to it – even if it’s installed on your device. Oculus has already removed the option to purchase Marvel Powers United VR from its store, so if you don’t already have it installed you’ll no longer be able to check out the action before it’s gone forever....

There are very few anime series that have achieved the level of success that One Piece has, and the series has managed to also produce some decent movies. The series is set in a world where people can obtain supernatural powers by eating Devil Fruits, and each fruit comes with its own unique power. Akainu is the current fleet admiral of the Marines, and he ate the Magma-Magma Fruit-a Logia fruit which gives him the ability to create, manipulate, and transform into magma at will....

The Outriders demo arrived, whipping many players into a frenzy as they’re eager to explore what development studio People Can Fly has crafted under the purview of its genre mashup between RPG and looter-shooter. The demo released on February 25, more than a month prior to release so the developer can analyze play styles and balance. People Can Fly has been enjoying the fruits of its labor as Outriders has been the talk of social media....

Blizzard’s new team-based hero shooter, Overwatch, arrives, and it comes packed with fast-paced action, eccentric playable characters, and, of course, microtransactions. In Overwatch, money spent on microtransactions comes back to the player as “Loot Boxes” and (like the name implies) it is a box full of goodies that can contain new sprays, emotes, victory poses, new voice lines, or some truly gorgeous alternative skins for characters. The slowdown issues in the Monster Hunter Rise demo could be caused by having too many people on your friend list. Capcom announced that a Monster Hunter Rise demo would be released on the Nintendo eShop on January 8. The demo offers two single-player tutorials, and two hunts that can be enjoyed locally with friends, or online with anyone in the world. It seems that Capcom and Nintendo didn’t anticipate the incredible interest in the game, as the hordes of thirsty hunters caused the eShop to slow down, to the point where it could take ten minutes for the demo to start downloading....

Monster Hunter Rise was released just last weekend on Friday, exclusively for Nintendo Switch. Earlier today, Capcom announced that the game had sold over 4 million copies worldwide in its opening weekend - a massive feat considering the game is only available for Nintendo Switch right now. Monster Hunter World, which was released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, managed to sell over 5 million copies in its opening weekend. Comparing the numbers from both games, Rise’s release is still a huge hit, especially when considering that Rise is limited to one platform....
