Lots of video games throw excess materials at the player, but not quite with the same gusto as Nier Replicant. A rather faithful remake of 2010s original Nier, Replicant really only changes two key details: the main character and the core combat. Otherwise, Nier is exactly as it was – as sad as it is grindy. There is a lot of money to be made from in-game purchases such as loot boxes, and Overwatch has just proved how lucrative they can be. The multiplayer first-person shooter (or “hero shooter”) has reached a mark that a somewhat short list of titles has, generating over $1 billion from in-game content alone. A new chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is beginning with the arrival of Moon Knight, a show (and indeed a superhero) unlike any other. The series is the first Marvel project to arrive on the small screen since the Jeremy Renner-starring Hawkeye bowed last December, and it certainly looks like it will be one to watch for MCU fans and newbies alike. Hideo Kojima is known as the creator of the Metal Gear series, a series that has gained a lot of admiration from fans. With his recent release of Death Stranding, fans of Kojima’s work are probably curious about past projects he has worked on and how he got started in making games. Mortal Kombat has always been a franchise that embraces its own cheesiness and isn’t afraid to get a little over-the-top. Characters, settings, story elements, and abilities in Mortal Kombat have always been exaggerated, but sometimes the series’ most serious moments come across as silly. While every game in the franchise has its ridiculous moments, Mortal Kombat 4 is home to some of the most hilariously terrible character endings in the whole franchise....

Right from the beginning, My Friend Pedro lets you know that this game isn’t meant to be taken seriously. After all, the main story is about a talking banana that instructs you to kill people on its behalf, which eventually leads you to a confrontation with the Dictator of the Internet. It is a very silly game. The main selling point of My Friend Pedro is definitely not its story, it’s the gameplay....

Netflix thriller The One is bookended by the same line. It starts and ends with Rebecca Webb, CEO of the genetics-based dating service central to the series, standing on stage saying: “I have a secret I want to share with you.” Both times, Rebecca’s talking to a crowd of receptive clients eager to hear that her company is going to find them scientifically approved, DNA-based true love. In episode one, the ‘secret’ is all part of a spiel about her having grown up with parents who didn’t love each other and how, thanks to her company, that won’t ever have to happen again....
