But even within the reality of the show, Elliot at times more closely resembled a hacker archetype than a living, breathing, bleeding human being. For four seasons our protagonist wore his black hoodie like a superhero wears a cape, which is fitting given that his abilities at times seem superhuman....

Tattoo studio Solid Oak Sketches sues NBA 2K16 publisher, Take-Two Interactive over unauthorized reproduction of tattoo designs within their popular basketball games. Specific designs from various artists Shawn Rome, Justin Wright and Tommy Ray Cornett include a portrait of a child on James’ left forearm and a crown of butterflies on Kobe’s right bicep. These tattoo artists maintain that they had signed a copyright agreement with the players, which would certainly add a wrinkle into this court case....

Netflix has just released the opening credits for its new gaming docuseries, High Score, which can be seen exclusively on the IGN YouTube page. The series, which explores the golden age of video games, is scheduled to premiere on the streaming platform on Wednesday, August 19. Revisiting iconic games like Pac-Man and Doom, the docuseries looks at the imagination and ingenuity behind the development of early video games. It also examines how the computer technology behind the first games eventually led to the developments of classics like Space Invaders, Final Fantasy, Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat, Sonic the Hedgehog, MADDEN NFL, and more....

Despite the films garnering a bad reputation when helmed by Michael Bay, the Transformers live-action movie franchise has seen a new lease of life following the release of 2018’s Bumblebee. For the first time in a number of years, fans are excited to see where the Transformers franchise’s heading next, especially as the series has ditched Bay and allegedly given Hasbro more creative control. Mortal Kombat 11’s upcoming Aftermath expansion is highly anticipated. Aftermath will introduce three new fighters to Mortal Kombat in Sheeva, Fujin, and RoboCop. In light of Super Mario Party getting a recent release with its online update in China, some new promotions have been set up. There are two different ones, but they will both be running from now through August 31, so people have the entire summer to take advantage. The first promotion that Nintendo and Tencent set up with Holiday Inn will be running at 24 Holiday Inn locations in China. Guests there will both be able to play Super Mario Party in the lobby, and they can also get a Nintendo Switch in their rooms....

Last week a virtual concert held in a virtual Helsinki attracted more than one million spectators. Literally 12% of Finland’s total population tuned into this one event. The concert was held as a digital replacement for the country’s usual May Day celebrations held annually on 1st May - one of the most prominent public holidays in Finland. Obviously the traditional real-life event couldn’t take place this year thanks to ol’ COVID-19, so the Finns got creative and opted for the quarantine-friendly platform of virtual reality....

Blizzard ends the Halloween event in Overwatch about an hour early, upsetting fans that were still trying to unlock the event-exclusive cosmetic items. For the most part, it seems as though Blizzard has made the right call with the way it handles microtransactions in Overwatch. Players have the option of purchasing loot boxes with real world cash if they so choose, in order to obtain more cosmetic items for their characters, while substantial content like new characters and maps are added for free....

For the past couple of weeks, the next Overwatch map, Horizon Lunar Colony, has been tested in the game’s PTR (Public Test Region). Now the map is ready to make its way to the actual game, with a simultaneous launch planned for PC, PS4, and Xbox One next week on June 20th. The Horizon Lunar Colony map in Overwatch is an Assault-type map set on the moon. Most of the map takes place inside the lunar colony where Winston was raised, but portions of it take place on the surface of the moon itself, which means players will have to take low gravity into account....

In a bid to minimize the risk of a continually spreading coronavirus, Blizzard recently moved to postpone all Overwatch League homestand matches for March and April. Now, it has announced that all planned matches will still proceed live in an online format, explaining that “online play allows us to prioritize the health and safety of our entire community while still continuing to bring fans high-quality entertainment and competition.” With the online competitive play set to begin on March 21, the cancellation of live events seems to make no major impact on the progression of the league and its season....
