NetherRealm Studios has busily been revealing new characters for Mortal Kombat 11 over the past week. First came Kano’s announcement, one of Mortal Kombat’s most recognized fighters. Then came Kabal and D’Vorah right after the other in the past twenty-four hours, bringing the total number of confirmed fighters up to eleven. Mortal Kombat boss Ed Boon says that NetherRealm isn’t stopping there, and that fans should expect more “classic fighter” announcements soon....

People who are accustomed to Mortal Kombat - the video game franchise that provoked the creation of the Entertainment Software Rating Board - tend to think of two, iconic phrases: “Finish Him” and “Fatality”. It was therefore rather odd when HBO Max translated the latter phrase wrongly, in the streaming version of Simon McQuoid’s film adaptation. With the Los Angeles Lakers winning the championship recently the NBA season is officially over. Fans of the NBA are now sulking, waiting for the next season to start as a new round of optimism will kick in. It’s unclear how soon that will be so in the meantime they must turn to NBA 2K21. Though initially thought to be a standalone title, Anarchy Reigns has pretty much been established as a sequel to MadWorld. If the appearances of MadWorld characters, like the protagonist Jack Cayman, or the revamped final boss Blacker Baron, weren’t enough proof - the Anarchy Reigns story trailer provides some hard evidence. But while there are a number of characters from MadWorld who could return, there is still plenty of room for new faces to appear....

It has been an incredible year for video games. The release of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has taken the gaming world by storm, and other titles, like Horizon: Zero Dawn and even Final Fantasy 15 late last year have exceeded the lofty expectations attributed to them. In an industry where falling short of the uncontrollable hype can happen to very good titles, it is remarkable to see so many AAA games excel in such a short span of time....

In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Eivor is no stranger to sorrow. Even at a young age, they watched as their village was overtaken by Kjotve’s forces and their father was slain before their eyes. After arriving in England, they make new friendships and bonds, but not all of these are destined to last. The Sciropescire alliance arc rips many of these bonds apart, resulting in what is easily the most depressing story in the game up to this point....

Guilty Gear Strive came out last month and it’s a pretty good fighter, all things considered. Dave really liked it, and said in his review that Strive “smells great, blazes beautifully.” Well, now he can smell as great as the game thanks to the two brand new Guilty Gear scents. Called “Sol & Ky Eau de Parfum,” the two scents are named after Sold Badguy and Ky Kiske, two of the main characters from the Guilty Gear series....

One of the more memorable moments of E3 2019 was when Tango Gameworks’ Ikumi Nakamura presented Ghostwire: Tokyo. Nakamura’s bubbly personality made her an instant Internet sensation, and so it came as a bit of a surprise when she left Tango Gameworks a few months later. There are few things as unreasonably satisfying as opening a loot box in Overwatch. After playing through several rounds or completing a series of tasks, receiving the opportunity to add to one’s ever-growing line of alternate character skins, sprays, emblems, etc. is appealing. The visceral thrill of all the lights and sounds that emerge as a box is opened are undeniably euphoric, and according to Blizzard, this is all an intentional part of the game....
