From the opening moments of the latest Mortal Kombat film adaptation, it is immediately clear that the filmmakers had taken a lot of care to honor the movie’s video game origins. And throughout the film’s 110 minutes length, that care is on full display through several Easter eggs and callbacks to the games. Most of these might go unnoticed by casual audiences. For long-time fans of the games though, it is hard not to see the references whenever they occur....

Whether or not NetherRealm Studios has plans to release any more DLC for Mortal Kombat 11 is anybody’s guess. While many believe that Kombat Pack 2 will prove to be the last, there are some hints buried amongst the game’s files that could suggest otherwise. Regardless, for now at least, the addition of Mileena, Rain, and Rambo brings the total number of DLC fighters in the game up to a very respectable 12....

The red band trailer for the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie had everything that fans of the franchise wanted to see from the reboot. While many tie-ins tend to follow along with the story of their respective blockbuster film, The Amazing Spider-Man tells a story that takes place after the events of the movie, but still exists in that universe. About a month ago, Pokemon GO developer Niantic confirmed that it is currently working on a new mobile AR game set in author J.K. Rowling’s Potterverse called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, which will launch next year. Not to be outdone by the announcement, Warner Bros. Interactive recently revealed a new label expressly designed to make new games for the fantasy series, with the publisher now proclaiming that it has plans to release a fresh RPG based on the property named Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery that’s set to release in 2018 for Android and iOS....

Harvest Moon will be releasing a new game for the Nintendo Switch. There was no concept art released with this announcement, just the promise that Harvest Moon: One World will have “an all-new engine and graphics.” Harvest Moon is a farm simulator game that charges players with maintaining a farm through raising livestock, planting and selling crops, and foraging. There are also personal elements to the game like making friends and forming relationships with other villagers and even attending local festivals....

Telltale Games officially provides a release window for the third episode in Season 3 of its interactive adventure game with zombies, The Walking Dead. Without a doubt, ever since the release of The Walking Dead: A Telltale Games Series’ episodes 1 and 2 from the third season, fans have been clamoring for even more content to be added to the interactive survival-horror video game as soon as possible. Thankfully, developers for the franchise have officially confirmed that Episode 3: “Above the Law” is set to release relatively soon for all of The Walking Dead’s available platforms....

In light of Microsoft’s recent efforts to eliminate online harassment via updated community guidelines, Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has laid out a new initiative intended to provide the groundwork for a better gaming experience. The latest NieR Re[in]carnation trailer shows off what might be turn-based combat along with a story that is as opaque as most NieR games. NieR is making the jump to mobile. First announced in March, game director Yoko Taro said he’s trying to shake up the mobile gaming scene by adding his very special flavor to mobile goulash. He also said he doesn’t necessarily care about making money as much as he does making a NieR game work on the mobile platform....

A floppy disk thought to be cleared of data has been recovered 26 years later and it’s full of Earthbound content. As reported by Kotaku, former Nintendo of America employee Marcus Lindblom, found a floppy disk containing files and data from when he originally localised Earthbound. The floppy was thought to be wiped for more data, but with the help of the Video Game History Foundation, it has been successfully restored....

Nippon Ichi Software had a busy year on the Japanese side of things, and while some of their 2020 titles didn’t hit western shores just yet, it still has the North American leg of the company, NISA, busy localizing titles from other developers. Keeping up that momentum, it looks like NIS will continue strong in 2021 with both sequels and new games into 2021. No Man’s Sky is now available on Xbox Series X, and the folks over at Hello Games have put together a launch trailer to highlight all the additions made for next-gen consoles. NVIDIA’s upcoming broadcasting software brings cool features to streamers and content creators on RTX cards.
