Nintendo has always been a vital company in the console wars and even though their hardware isn’t always the most powerful of a generation, they still find unique and innovative ways to engage with gamers. The first Riot-backed VALORANT tournament got underway recently with 128 North American teams battling it out for the chance at a spot in the closed qualifiers this week. It was Cloud9 Blue that walked away with the first seed heading into the Nerd Street Gamers open tournament, securing their first seed for the next leg of the massive First Strike tournament. The 16 teams who made it into the closed qualifier will go through a group round as well as a final bracket to determine who will be the four teams heading to the official First Strike tournament set for the beginning of December....

In a strange and amazing piece of synergistic cross-promotion, prosthetic manufacturer Open Bionics has teamed up with Konami to create a Metal Gear Solid themed prosthetic arm. Based on Venom Snake’s design from Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, the very first model was given to 29-year-old Daniel Melville of Reading, UK and it seems he is pleased with the final result. “This is unbelievable. It’s everything I’ve ever wanted from a bionic arm,” said Daniel in an official statement on Open Bionics’ website....

Blizzard releases Overwatch’s newest hero, the support sniper Ana, on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One just a few days after her addition through a patch on PC. Blizzard added the first post-launch hero to Overwatch’s roster a few days ago with the release of support sniper Ana on PC. Ana was first revealed last week alongside an origins trailer that showed her connections to multiple other characters, including her daughter, Pharah, and archenemy, Widowmaker....

Blizzard is currently in the midst of releasing a series of Overwatch teasers day-to-day, but a bit of news may have accidentally been revealed too soon. The official Overwatch account for Japan recently posted the file name of a teaser image, rather than the image itself. As a result, thousands of Japanese Overwatch fans were left with a different teaser than intended, a teaser that reads “Brigitte Tease #3_Monday”. Speculation regarding the recent teasers has assumed they were leading up to the announcement of Overwatch’s 27th character....

A cult classic from the original PlayStation is finally leaving Japan and coming to Nintendo Switch, as Moon: Remix RPG Adventure (now localized as Moon) will be released on August 27. Moon: Remix RPG Adventure was a bizarre JRPG that was released for the original PlayStation back in 1997. The game parodied and played with the tropes of the JRPGs from the 16-bit era. An English localization of Moon: Remix RPG Adventure was planned back in 1997, but it never came to pass and the game remained in Japan....

Morphies Law is returning to Switch with a new update that also sees the game release on Steam, too. Morphies Law originally released on the Nintendo Switch last summer and was met with, shall we say, “lackluster” reviews. It’s a third-person shooter in the same vein as Splatoon, but with a neat gimmick: as you shoot your opponents, you grow, and they shrink. NBCLX, a streaming network owned by NBCUniversal, has added esports to its programming lineup. The service is aimed at millennials and generation Z, and is available to watch on a multitude of streaming sites.
