Five years have passed since the last Star Trek movie hit the theaters. Now it seems fans may be only two years away from the next sci-fi chapter, as the next Star Trek film is finally moving forward at Paramount. After Star Trek: Beyond, Paramount wasn’t sure which direction to take the franchise on the big screen next. As Beyond closed out the trilogy with the lowest box office revenue at $344 million with a production budget of $185 million, executives spent years thinking of a new approach for the next installment....

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels was canceled by Showtime, according to Variety. The resurrection of the Penny Dreadful brand opened with its patron, Santa Muerte, as she carries the souls of the newly dead to whatever comes next, just so long as it’s not on the premium cable channel. “Showtime has decided not to move forward with another season of Penny Dreadful: City of Angels,” Showtime announced in a statement. “We would like to thank executive producers John Logan, Michael Aguilar and the entire cast and crew for their outstanding work on this project....

Monster Hunter Rise is the latest instalment in Capcom’s Monster Hunter franchise. The game was released on March 26, 2021 for Nintendo Switch. However, Capcom has confirmed that it’s working on a PC version that will be releasing in early 2022, so those after increased visuals and performance can look forward to that. For now, the Switch version is still a great way to experience it. Earlier today, Capcom released a press release announcing that Monster Hunter Rise has officially surpassed five million units globally....

Monster Hunter World is full of tasks for players to tackle and offers a lot of freedom when it comes to the order in which players want to get to each chore. Unfortunately, sometimes all of that freedom can make it difficult to decide which quests will unlock which upgrades. At some point in the game, Monster Hunter World players are going to run out of available slots at the farm (or the biological research facility if you’re feeling fancy)....

Five years ago yesterday, Grand Theft Auto 4 made its way onto store shelves and into the hearts of gamers everywhere. Its pulse-pounding action made it an instant hit, and fans everywhere were more than content with what the game offered. Fast forward to 2013 and gamers are anxiously awaiting the arrival of that game’s successor, Grand Theft Auto 5, and it won’t be much longer now until it hijacks countless hours of their time....

In a role-playing environment, especially one where charged “spells” are essential, the time delay for using said abilities can sometime mean the difference between a character’s life or demise. For Star Wars: The Old Republic, this was no different. Thankfully, thanks to the most recent update, players are now able to use their abilities more quickly with less delay. BioWare has been very outspoken in its need for player feedback during the first month of their newest hit, soliciting player input even before the game went live during the extensive beta....

At this point, many should be familiar with Playtonic Games and its spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie, Yooka-Laylee. The game only just recently became one of the most successful KickStarter campaigns of all-time, which was almost expected following the title’s ability to hit its initial goal within an hour of the crowd-funded project’s launch. Bit by bit, the former Rare staffers behind Yooka-Laylee have been unveiling pieces of the game’s contents, and now a handful of new characters have been confirmed for the title – although they may not be quite what fans were expecting....

Indie studio Rainy Night Creations releases a new trailer for its horror game Vaccine, which looks and plays like classic Resident Evil games from the 90s. There are a number of exciting horror games set to release in 2017, including high profile titles like Outlast 2 and We Happy Few. In fact, there are so many promising horror titles set to launch this year that a few have slipped under the radar, including an interesting indie title called Vaccine, which seems to be heavily inspired by the classic PS1-era Resident Evil games....

Though he was finally featured in a villain specific Injustice 2 trailer last week, NetherRealm Studios finally released Captain Cold’s standalone trailer, showing off a little more gameplay for the long time Flash arch-rival. In addition to the arrival of a live stream dedicated to him as well, the trailer is full of icy cold gameplay, flashy moves, and unfortunately a serious lack of iconic ice puns. Armed with a cold gun, Captain Cold has access to a number of moves that can freeze his enemy, including a three hit combo then ends with a big kick....

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne’s latest trailer reveals yet another monster and the expansions pre-order bonus content. Picking up right where the last trailer left off, Iceborne’s latest video shows us just what the Rathalos was so upset about when the hunter showed up. Apparently, Glavenus is set to return, and it’s not looking too pleased about it. Then again, we doubt it’s possible for Glavenus to look like anything other than filled with murderous rage....

Look to the east! New releases ride for for Games Workshop’s tabletop war game, the Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game. The Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game has been a part of Games Workshop’s repertoire for almost 20 years, with the first edition of the game released at the same time as Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring. Since then it has seen new releases, in one form or another, with each of the motion picture blockbusters....

As the Summer heats up, and the pace of life begins slowing down to take advantage of those long, hot days, new video game releases tend to run a little thin. Though it’s been a good season so far, the past few weeks haven’t seen many must-play games pop up on store shelves. Fortunately, things are looking up. Electronic Arts is casting a wide net this week. NCAA Football 12 and the many versions of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 should be all but unavoidable....

Insomniac Games may still be laughing about Spider-Man PS4’s “Puddlegate” controversy. The developer released a new promotional screenshot today for its upcoming Spider-Man: Miles Morales game, and it just so happens to have the black-clad wallcrawler performing a signature Spider-Man pose next to a gorgeous-looking puddle of water. As the name suggests, Puddlegate was a controversy revolving around a puddle of water. Insomniac premiered a Spider-Man PS4 demo back during E3 2017 that featured this water puddle, and fans used it to represent how good the graphics of the game looked....

With Cyberpunk 2077 slowly approaching its release day, some fans are probably starting to wonder what future games will CD Project Red (CDPR) focus on. There is the fact that once Cyberpunk 2077 releases, it will still see a number of updates and DLCs in order to continue its engagement with the players; yet the question of what the next project will be still remains. As it turns out, CDPR recently took the time to state that it will immediately begin work on a new game once Cyberpunk 2077 hits store shelves and online stores in September....

Nexus Mods, a popular gaming modification site that lets users upload and download mods for computer games, has banned all mods related to “sociopolitical issues in the United States” until after the presidential inauguration in January. Founder Robin Scott said he had seen “a spate of provocative and troll mods” designed to provoke users, therefore, the site will remove any political mods uploaded on or after September 28, adding that the site’s administrators “have neither the time, the care or the wish to moderate” them....

Good Smile Company shared two images of its upcoming Nier: Automata 2B Nendoroid figurine via Twitter today. The posted images show the first painted prototype of the figure and thus may not completely reflect the final product. Fans who are eager to get their hands on the Nier: Automata figurine should be happy to know that pre-orders for the Nendoroid will open on September 29, 2020, although no release date or official price has yet been provided....

Nier Replicant - or, as Yoko Taro likes to style it, NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… - was recently rated for PC, PS4, and Xbox One in Taiwan. For what it’s worth, Tokyo Game Show kicks off in just over three weeks - Nier fans now have a reason to risk getting excited. For those unacquainted with Nier Replicant, it’s an upcoming remaster of the original Nier game, which was a direct sequel to the fifth ending of Yoko Taro’s Drakengard and an indirect prequel to 2017’s critically-acclaimed Nier: Automata....

Square Enix has released new footage of the upcoming remaster NieR Replicant that is releasing in just a few months. The video shows off nine minutes of gameplay from the Barren Temple, a location from the first part of the game. NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 is an updated remaster of the 2010 game NieR, which is itself a spinoff of the often-ignored Drakengard series. It is a story-heavy action-RPG that follows a teenage protagonist trying to save his sister from a deadly disease known as the Black Scrawl....
