The Clive Barker renaissance is now officially in progress. The latest news is that the long-developing TV series based on the horror/dark fantasy author and filmmaker’s 1990 movie Nightbreed has landed a director — and it’s Michael Dougherty, who helmed last year’s underrated kaiju epic, Godzilla King of the Monsters. Originally announced back in 2018 for Syfy, the series will presumably focus, like the movie, on Midian, an underground world where outcast creatures and human/monster hybrids attempt to live in peace out of sight of the world above....

Ninja announced his permanent move from Twitch today, surprising every one and leaving behind the biggest streaming audience in the world in hopes they will follow him to Microsoft’s Mixer. Microsoft had thrown their hat into the ring by acquiring Ninja and finally representing legitimate competition for Twitch, while on Mixer, Ninja will have virtually zero competition whatsoever. Whether Ninja pulls in big number on Mixer or not, it’s safe to assume that the deal he made with Microsoft was substantial enough to take the leap, at least for the next few years....

Nintendo has applied for eight new trademarks in Japan, which could give us an insight into the company’s future plans. Trademark application and renewal is one of the biggest ways in which new games are spoiled. Square Enix’s recent trademark application for Live A Live suggests that a port of the 16-bit era RPG is coming, and we’ve known about it for months, so any reveal won’t be a surprise. These trademark applications are a necessary stage in the process of releasing games, but it makes it hard for companies to keep projects a secret throughout development....

Pelly and Phyllis used to be regular staples in the Animal Crossing series. From the first game up until New Leaf, the two pelicans worked diligently at the player’s post office, delivering mail and taking mortgage payments. They were a regular, comforting presence in the series, and even had small parts in 2006’s Animal Crossing movie. But last year, longtime fans had a rude awakening with the release of New Horizons....

One of gaming’s biggest redemption stories, No Man’s Sky will be landing on Xbox Game Pass this June for both Xbox One and PC. Added to coincide with the new Windows 10 port of the game, the game doesn’t currently have an actual date associated with it. We do know that this version will contain every major update to the game and may even have cross-play. Hello Games director Sean Murray wrote on Xbox Wire, “It seems like a natural and timely step to announce today that next month, No Man’s Sky will come to Xbox Game Pass, opening up our universe of possibilities to over 10 million Xbox Game Pass members who are just about to start their journey with us....

While the Prestige Edition of the past Call of Duty iterations has always shipped with some sort of flashy piece of tech, it has always been more of a “I wish I could afford that” rather than a “I must have that” Collector’s Edition. This year, with Modern Warfare 3, Activision is forgoing the fancy doodads and keeping things simple by offering the regular retail version and the Hardened Edition, no Prestige Edition....

Markus “Notch” Persson is an interesting developer, to say the least. After his success with the simple-yet-catchy Minecraft, he has amassed a large online following, jumped from project to project, and left behind a trail of Twitter arguments. When he’s not involved in gripping legal drama or expressing his disdain for Windows 8, Persson occasionally shows progress on some of his many game projects. His latest release Drop is as blocky and addictive as Minecraft, but this is where the similarity ends....

In December 2006, Sega announced Aliens: Crucible, an RPG that was to be set in the Alien universe and was being developed by Obsidian Entertainment, the studio behind popular titles like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 and Fallout: New Vegas. Then, in 2009, the project was cancelled, but a recent interview gives fans a little more insight into what exactly the Obsidian Entertainment game might have been....

Chloé Zhao made history tonight by becoming the first woman of color to win a Best Director Oscar, as well as only the second female filmmaker to take that prize. Recognized for her work writing and directing Nomadland, a meditative drama about an older woman named Fern (Frances McDormand) who travels the American West in a van she also lives in, Zhao made history when she took the stage. And, fittingly, Zhao used her acceptance speech to talk about a shared goodness she’s seen from people in all walks of life and in all corners of the earth....

It’s no secret that there is a 27th hero in the works for Overwatch, and while there are many theories as to who that hero may be, new evidence points to it being none other than Jetpack Cat. This thanks to a new piece of Overwatch art posted earlier today by Blizzard that appears to show schematics for a shield or armor piece of some kind. A note on the schematics seems to suggest that the armor is being built with enough room for a cat, and the tail and paw of an orange cat can also be seen....

Ranked play in Overwatch is releasing this month, and game director Jeff Kaplan educates fans on what fundamentals have been changed since the closed beta. More Overwatch news emerges as Jeff Kaplan, game director of the first-person shooter, has detailed exactly what players can expect when the game’s ranked mode comes out later this month. In an interview with Eurogamer, Kaplan announced that the system won’t be too similar to the way ranked play was handled in Overwatch’s closed beta, stating that previously, the ranked gameplay was “frustrating because it was unfinished....

Players are busy exploring World of Warcraft: Shadowlands and mining it for content. There are Penitent Hunts to go on, Skyward Bells to find, and above all, Anima to absorb. However, not every new feature in World of Warcraft is being found in the Shadowlands themselves. World of Warcraft: Shadowlands leans into its story more than other expansions. For this it deserves some praise, but any veteran of World of Warcraft can attest that there is more going on in the game surrounding the main story....

Capcom is starting off strong when it comes to getting players excited for Monster Hunter Rise, the Switch exclusive installment looking to replace Monster Hunter: World next year. This includes giving fans a look at the new Monster Hunter companion, the Palamute, and showing off some of the many ways that players can interact with the giant, ridable dogs. Monsterland, Hulu’s latest horror anthology premiering October 2, 2020, proves that it’s possible to elicit discomfort and enjoyment at the same time, even though doing so might push some viewers away. In a tweet on November 6, NetherRealm announced that Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate would feature custom variations in ranked mode. Because of the developers’ early indication that this wouldn’t be the case, the announcement was met with a lot of excitement from fans, who were definitely ready to throw down in their own personal style.
