Whether it’s Overwatch, Fortnite, PUBG, or Magic: The Gathering; playing competitive games can always lead to some intense emotions. Some gamers have a harder time than others controlling those feelings, which can lead to some serious raging and unhealthy behaviors. Luckily for one Overwatch player, he has a therapist for a wife who had some strategies to process those bad beats.
Lots of things can cause negative feelings during or after a game from teammates who can’t concentrate on an objective to an unfair ranking system, but the trick is learning how to process those feelings in a productive manner. This player’s wife had him use a mood tracking activity to get to the root of his negative feelings. According to the player, it was incredibly helpful.
Here is a look at a completed sheet after one of the player’s Overwatch sessions…
Although it may seem a little silly, the activity is actually a proven mood tracking technique in therapy and could be used by many gamers to control their negative emotions. In response to the story, many other users on Reddit requested a blank version of the sheet, so they could try out the technique for themselves. Here is the copy that the original poster provided.
The mood tracker obviously isn’t necessary for everyone, but if you find yourself throwing controllers, swearing through your headset, or being in a bad mood after finishing a game; then perhaps it’s worth a shot! Keep in mind that the mood tracker isn’t Overwatch specific and could be used for any game.
