The OWL community is banding together to support the esports apparel brand ULT and its Doodle Collection release that carries an important message. The Overwatch merchandise enters its second release that aims to unite gamers and promote an important sense of togetherness within the league.
ULT premiered their Doodle Collection on June 20th, including an OWL Doodle Hoodie ($69.99), Doodle Picket Tee ($34.99) and Doodle Hat ($37.99). The hand-drawn, limited edition clothing items sold out within 24 hours of its initial release, sparking an immediate second wave of sales with a time limit. Pre-orders for the collections next batch ends on Sunday, June 28th, noting that orders will ship until the end of July.
The gaming lifestyle brand explained on its promotional tweet that the apparel’s illustrations are badges of participating OWL teams from around the world. ULT made a point of reiterating the Overwatch League as being a symbol for diversity and fellowship, further explaining that the Doodle Collection was created to support “equality, pride and self-expression.” The brand’s Instagram account ultesports also commented on the League’s relentless commemoration of a wonderful community of gamers.
The collection was met with nothing but praise from fans and members of the League who commended its eye-catching design and powerful symbol of equality. Most interested buyers were too late to grab a piece of the merch on ULT’s first run of the collection, and the following restock will likely head in the same direction. The Overwatch community were quick to put in their pre-orders for the second round and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a third wave green lit for some time in the future.
The OWL team kits, designed in collaboration with streetwear designer Jeff Staple, are great for official play, but ULT standby producing merchandise that endorses the core values of the Overwatch community. ULT stood by its morals by recently removing an employee for actions that violated ethical policies. The brand released a statement on Twitter explaining that the team fully support a safer gaming industry for all and that abuse would not be tolerated. There are no further reports concerning details of the employee’s removal.
The Los Angeles based esports affiliate is putting a stamp on the Overwatch nation, by marking it as a safe space for all gamers. There are no reports of a Doodle Collection expansion with alternative designs, but it wouldn’t be out of the question. Now is an important time to advocate for equality across the gaming industry as a whole and ULT show tremendous support in allowing players to wear this unity proudly.
