Blizzard puts an incredible amount of detail into each Overwatch skin that they craft and then stuff into lootboxes. Sometimes masked characters like Reaper or Genji will even be given facial animations just for that specific skin.

Wrecking Ball, aka Hammond, aka the abnormally large, super-intelligent hamster that drives a spherical battle-mech - it’s a very silly game - is a favorite among Overwatch players who enjoy torturing their opponents by constantly bashing them with a giant swinging metal orb. There’s also a pretty interesting detail related to his many skins and his signature grappling hook ability.

According to a Reddit post from a user named Willyknickers, Wrecking Ball’s grappling hook actually changes depending on what skin the player has equipped. Most notably, his Junker skin makes the hook look more like a drill, while the recent Submarine skin that was released for this year’s Anniversary event resembles an anchor to go with the nautical theme. This is pretty amazing considering it’s such a small detail that most players have never noticed before. Heck, even Willyknickers himself only just realized this, hence his post.

Blizzard is well known for putting this kind of intricate work into small aspects of their games, especially in Overwatch. Torbjorn’s hammer has been changed into an inflatable beach toy to go with his Surf ‘N Splash skin, Roadhog’s healing apparatus takes on the appearance of an old can of tuna to go with his Ice Fisherman skin, etc.

It’s this care and attention that makes fans anticipate every new game that comes from Blizzard. We can only hope that they continue to put this kind of effort into Overwatch 2, rather than the lack of effort that went into Warcraft 3: Reforged.
