One creative fan of Overwatch 2 has put together an informative map showing the origin country of each playable character. The plentiful roster of heroes from Overwatch 2 collectively represents a wealth of countries from every continent in the world and even beyond, in a few cases.
Though the first game originally launched with a mere 21 heroes, the list has almost doubled in the time since as new heroes were periodically introduced to the world of Overwatch, typically once every four months or so. While the game started out with a diverse range of characters, some updates saw additions from countries such as Nigeria, Canada, and Mexico for the very first time.
A member of the Overwatch 2 community on Reddit by the name of Filberto_ossani2 shared the map in a post, showing a complete map of the Earth which highlights the home countries of every hero in the game in a different color. Each relevant country includes the portrait of every character that originates there, with most countries being home to several heroes. Some countries will need to be magnified however, since the smaller countries provide portraits that are difficult to see.
While there are many heroes to find on this map, it should be noted that two unusual characters - Winston and Hammond, otherwise known as Wrecking Ball - actually originate from the Horizon Lunar Colony on the Moon in the Overwatch universe, which can’t be seen on this map. The map is up-to-date and complete with every character seen in the game, including the three most recent heroes added with Overwatch 2: Kiriko, Sojourn, and Junker Queen.
Though the current band of heroes come from a number of countries that covers most of the world’s territories, many players living in smaller countries throughout the world are eager to see new characters representing their home nations too. Prior to the recent release of Overwatch 2, the official roadmap for the game provided by the developers promised the community that they would see a new hero with the start of every other season, starting with a new tank hero to come with Season 2 on December 6.
The promise of a consistent trickle of new heroes in Overwatch 2 gives fans much to be excited for, and will hopefully put the spotlight on new characters from regions not yet seen in the game. Further additions to the character cast will surely bring even greater variety to the mix of languages and cultures seen in the game, and will allow players to further celebrate the awesome and growing range of nationalities that represents the gaming community in the real world.
Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
