If you’ve grown sick and tired of playing triple tank, we’ve got some great news for you: exciting changes are coming to Overwatch. Currently live on the testing region is a new type of role queue, where each team in-game is made of two tanks, two attackers and two support players.

This change will bring about some much-needed change to a meta that has gone stale for some time now in Overwatch and open up the game for more options. Let’s have a look at the 10 most solid comps you can run in your next competitive match to help you grind to Grand Master rank with ease.

In the meantime, the meta has been changing quite a bit due to Blizzard’s accelerated balance patches. There has been a real effort to alter heroes and to be more aggressive with balancing, which has resulted in some new, viable compositions, as well as the return of some comps that are more traditional.

15 Traditional Double Shield

For the longest time, traditional double shield was a major meta in Overwatch. It dominated most of competitive and pro-level play for what felt like ages, and it definitely wasn’t the most enjoyable of comps. That being said, it can still be immensely effective in certain maps and situations.

Sigma and Orisa are the traditional double shield pair, and with Orisa buffed as of February 2021, it’s more viable to run her as a tank once more. These two tanks can interchangeably use their shields to block out damage, as well as use Orisa’s Halt ability to combo their ultimates, making them a perfect pair.

14 Spam Comp

The most effective spam composition right now is without a doubt Echo and Hanzo. These two DPS heroes are in a very good place, and have been for months now, as of February 2021. Echo is able to dish out immense amounts of damage with her Sticky Bombs, and Hanzo’s arrows are perfect for spamming down tanks and chokepoints.

This comp works ideally with supports that will further amplify damage. Zenyatta is a great addition due to his own ability to spam and work as a third DPS hero, while discording targets for Echo and Hanzo to focus down. Mercy is a fantastic second healer for her ability to damage boost both Echo and Hanzo, and to get great value.

13 Moth Comp

If the enemy team is unable to run a hitscan DPS or is running a brawl comp that likes to fight at close range, taking over the air space of a map might be a good idea. Dubbed as the moth comp, Echo and Pharah, the queens of flying DPS, will not only be immensely annoying for certain enemy teams to deal with.

Pair these two up with a Mercy, and the damage is guaranteed. Keep in mind, however, that this comp is very situational, and the DPS should be changing their playstyle or heroes altogether if thee enemy does switch to even a single hitscan hero.

12 Sigma Ball

Sigma and Wrecking Ball have been known as a fantastic duo for quite some time, mainly due to their ability to disrupt the enemy, soak in damage and combo with each other. Even with Wrecking Ball nerfed as of February 2021, he’s still decent at average tiers of competitive play when played strategically.

Ball’s primary mission is to boop the enemy out of place, into Sigma’s line of sight, so that he can do tons of spam damage. Moreover, Ball’s piledrive can help Sigma secure easy ultimates.

11 Double Bubble

The one true meta as of February 2021 is a composition known as double bubble. Winston and Zarya have been paired as a tank duo before, but this composition has since been perfected with the addition of ideal supports and DPS heroes as well. At high levels of organized play, this is the go-to composition.

Zarya will essentially bubble Winston as he engages in a dive, along with two DPS, namely Tracer and Echo or Sombra and Echo. Winston will then use his bubble to separate enemies from each other by blocking off supports from their tanks and DPS, to secure kills. The ideal supports always include a Brigitte, as well as an Ana or Zenyatta.

10 Stun Comp

With how many different stun abilities there are available in the game, it almost seems like a waste not to take advantage of all of them. If you really want to annoy your enemy team, or maybe you have a super mobile composition against you with the likes of Tracer, Genji and Doomfist, go for stun characters that can instantly shut these heroes down.

The ideal stun comp has Roadhog and Orisa on tanks, Sombra and McCree on attackers and Brigitte and Ana as healers. Each of these characters possess one ability that will limit the enemy’s movement in some shape or form.

9 Hamster Dive

Wrecking Ball, everyone’s favorite Overwatch hamster, is one of the most interesting heroes if used correctly. His strength lies in disrupting compositions that stand still, such as bunkers that are positioned on high ground that can be hard to reach. He can roll in, use his Pile Drive to stun the enemy momentarily, which allows the rest of the team to jump in and wreak havoc.

He pairs well with a Winston who can dive with him, as well as a Sombra who can use her hack to shutdown key enemy abilities and a Mercy who has great mobility and can dive with both tanks. A second attacker should be Genji or Tracer and a second healer should be Lucio for extra mobility.

8 Double Shield

This is a very situational composition, but can be incredibly useful when your team wants to full hold a point and make it incredibly hard for the enemy to push in. Double Shield essentially involves both Reinhardt and Orisa, who either shield front and pack at the same time or one direction simultaneously or taking turns.

Since the composition is usually stationary, it pairs well with snipers like Widowmaker and Hanzo or even Mei who can bring in a third shield with her wall to block damage. For healers you’ll want a lot of sustain, so Baptiste with his immortality shield and Mercy who can use her resurrection to bring back a fallen teammate to continue the battle.

7 Double Sniper

If you’re looking for a good comp to play on attack, consider going for the Widowmaker-Hanzo double sniper composition. The whole idea here is to try and take multiple angles on the enemy and even flank them, causing them to be distracted by the snipers and allowing the rest of your team to do whatever they want.

For tanks you would usually go Reinhardt and Zarya and for healers Ana who can keep the tanks alive with plentiful healing and Zenyatta to discord any single targets which the snipers can then pick off easily with immense damage output.

6 Bunker

When playing an assault map like Hanamura or Volskaya Industries, one of the most powerful compositions to run is bunker. This comp is highly stationary, but makes up for its lack of mobility in the sheer amount of damage it can output. Bunker is usually played with a Bastion, but other damage spammers like Junkrat can work great, too.

For tanks, you should have Orisa and Roadhog who can pull and hook in targets for the attackers to mow down. As for healers, Baptiste and Mercy remain the best picks due to the healing output and immortality field, as well as resurrection, which should be reserved for the main spam attacker or Orisa.

5 Pirate Ship

In pure escort maps like Route 66 and Junkertown where your team can immediately hop on the payload without capturing a point, playing Pirate Ship can really cripple an enemy team that’s unable to coordinate an attack against you. Pirate Ship is essentially bunker, but on a moving payload, so you’ll want all the same heroes as in Bunker.

You can swap Orisa for Reinhardt if you’d like, although Orisa’s ability to pull enemies from behind cover is highly beneficial for a Bastion sitting on the payload, damage boosted by a Mercy and protected by a Baptiste with the immortality field. Roadhog can also hook people in for the kill.

4 Pharmercy

Although the combination of Pharah and Mercy isn’t always a viable pick if the enemy has skilled snipers and hitscan attackers, it can be devastating if the Pharah uses sight lines to her advantage and gets in the face of any snipers by eliminating them first. Moreover, the spam power that Pharah provides is great against shields, especially when damage boosted.

Pharmercy is great on any maps providing a lot of tall buildings for cover, but also most control maps as they allow the duo to simply spam the point or any chokes to the point. Pharmercy works in almost any type of comp, from Dive to Rein-Zarya, but for your second healer you should opt for Ana to make sure your team on the ground isn’t missing out on healing.

3 Traditional Dive

Old but gold, a traditional Dive composition does basically what its name says: jump in on a target, eliminate it and then jump back out again or jump to a different target. Dive is a highly mobile composition, with Winston and D.Va coordinating which targets to dive on, and Mercy, a mobile healer, diving with them.

For attackers you want to have Genji and Tracer who can easily dive with the tanks as well, and potentially a Zenyatta as a second healer who can discord the dive target from afar and keep everyone healed easily with his harmony orbs. Dive is great against less mobile comps, but when faced with bunker you should switch Tracer for a Sombra in order to disrupt the Bastion first to ensure your tanks aren’t taking too much spam damage when diving in.

2 Orisa-Hog

Currently very strong in the meta, Orisa and Roadhog make one of the best tank compositions, regardless of which attackers and healers they’re paired with. Orisa’s ability to pull people out of cover pairs perfectly with Roadhog’s hook, which will quickly grab any stray enemies and burst them down with immense damage.

This composition is extremely powerful on maps like Ilios Well or assault or even the first point of escort and hybrid maps. Ideally you should have a Hanzo to deal a lot of damage on the enemy shields and a Sombra to hack the enemy tanks to ensure they have no shield or stun abilities. For healers, Ana is great to sustain the tanks and Zenyatta’s discord orbs on any hooked targets is extremely useful and powerful.

1 Rein-Zarya

Ultimately the best tank duo in the game remains Reinhardt and Zarya, the bread and butter of any 2-2-2 composition. Both tanks have powerful tide-changing ultimates that can be rotated, and both tanks can use each other’s ultimates to farm their own. Moreover, Zarya can bubble Reinhardt regularly to stay high charge, so the chemistry is definitely there. What’s even more amazing about this comp is how flexible the attackers are.

You can go double sniper on certain maps, or have highly mobile flankers. However, the best attacker in the game right now is Sombra, who pair her EMP with Reinhardt’s Earth Shatter or Zarya’s Graviton Surge. As for healers, the best duo right now is Ana with her amazing heals and powerful anti-nade, as well as Zenyatta with his discord orb and Transcendence.
