A free new update to Overcooked! 2 has released titled Sun’s Out Buns Out. Overcooked 2 was originally released back in August 2018 by developer Ghost Town Games, and previously saw the Gourmet Edition release on the Switch in April of this year. Previous DLCs include Carnival of Chaos, Night of the Hangry Hoard, Campfire Cookoff, and Surf ’n’ Turf.
Available now on all platforms, Sun’s Out Buns Out, is the game’s summer-themed pack that includes two new dog chef characters to play as, new summer-inspired recipes to cook including ice cream floats and summer salads, five brand new levels, and a new kitchen layout that moves along parade floats. A few new hazards are introduced as well, such as fireworks and confetti that must be avoided or risk ruining your dish. The final addition to this pack sees the return of the sauce dispenser.
This DLC pack actually already released for those playing the Steam version of the game, but today marks when it comes to all other platforms the game is on. The DLC was revealed as part of the IGN Expo earlier in the month. Overcooked! 2 has gotten constant support and updates, both free and paid, since it launched nearly two years ago.
The level of support this title has received from developer Ghost Town Games and publisher Team 17 is one of the better examples of how DLC can be implemented in a game. The mixture of paid and free support goes a long way to keep people playing, and coming back, to a game that doesn’t rely on the usual predatory hooks that a lot of AAA games utilize to keep people playing their game.
If you haven’t jumped in and purchased Overcooked! 2 yet, the Gourmet Edition includes all the DLC released prior, and of course you can get the new Sun’s Out Buns Out pack for free on top of that. While it isn’t clear if this will be the final content drop the game gets, the amount of levels, characters, and chaotic fun this co-operative cooking simulator provides is already impressive. Plus, it’s available on every platform so there’s no excuse not to gather some friends and cook up some fresh summer meals.
