Despite managing to claw its way back from a meteoric scandal when it launched back in late 2017, production on Star Wars: Battlefront 2’s future updates and additions shut down at the end of last month, with the game’s developers claiming they’d now be working on general maintenance. This was naturally a fairly harsh blow for the game’s wide community, with many claiming that the game had really become something extraordinary since its controversies with microtransactions upon release.

It seems a large subset of fans aren’t ready to let Star Wars Battlefront 2 go just yet, however, with a new Change.org petition looking to prove to EA that players want support to keep going, even if it means buying paid DLC. The petition, which was started 2 weeks ago, has already managed to secure a whopping 52,000 signatures, with players clearly motivated to keep the game’s fairly regular stream of content rolling.

Started by Christen Adler, the reason behind their instigation of the petition is pretty simple. “Star Wars: Battlefront II is one of the greatest video game redemption stories of all time,” Adler writes in the petition’s description, continuing, “from a disastrous launch to a complete success, the transformation of the game is inspiring to all Star Wars fans and gamers alike. Unfortunately, the game was cut short while still having so much potential for wonderful new content.” They go on to suggest some new ideas they would love to see make it into the game, citing “New maps, heroes, skins, private matches, private servers, etc. are a must,” before telling signers that they must “be willing to pay for new DLC to keep this awesome game alive.”

The petition is surprisingly good-natured in comparison to others of its kind, asking politely for EA to reconsider its stance by asking for paid content for the game rather than the free releases it was offering prior. However, it’s worth remembering that EA has likely dropped Battlefront 2 from its plans for a good reason, whether that be because the game simply isn’t attracting the traffic it wants or the team behind it wants to transition to something new.

Regardless, it seems likely that the petition won’t achieve much in the grand scheme of things, but it is nice to see so many fans of the game come out to voice their support. Clearly, Battlefront 2 has a wide and passionate fanbase, and that’s sure to mean the game will be a fantastic place for Star Wars fans to come together for years to come even if new content is no longer integrated.
