Nine Dots Studio have announced the changes that face the world of Aurai in Outward’s new DLC. The expansion titled The Soroboreans will add a whole lot of new content to the survival game that is set for release on July 7.

In a PlayStation blog post made by Nine Dots’ CEO Guillaume Boucher-Vidal, the DLC is said to contain a long list of fresh content including additional dungeons, skills and weapons with a new storyline and region to explore. Boucher-Vidal also spoke about the new mechanics that would liven up Outward’s gameplay to encourage players to rediscover their sense of adventure. The CEO confirmed that one of the biggest changes to the game was the design of the new dungeons on offer that would take longer to complete.

Outward is known for its difficult gameplay that has been compared to Dark Souls. The demand of more patience from players is an aspect that Nine Dots addressed productively. The CEO explained that while fans of the game should be “familiar with the game’s mechanics”, then it would be also be fair to raise the difficulty level of the new locations by adding an obstacle known as ‘corruption’.  This concept will directly affect the player through noxious clouds that, inevitably, does what it says on the tin by corrupting your character. While every poisonous stage can be lethal, this tainted state will also allow for stronger attacks.

This open-world fantasy that explored real-word difficulties within the realm of magic was released last year and received overwhelming reviews, to the surprise of the developers. Despite a decent amount of praise being attached to the game, a few players called for Nine Dots to fix a certain inventory bug before offering out more content. The bug in question was reported to cause players’ inventories to disappear, and ultimately put other gamers off from purchasing the game.

Aside from a few flaws, Outward is a a beautifully crafted RPG that provided a different take on the hero’s ‘chosen one’ story. Made by a refined studio of ten developers, Outward players began the game’s narrative in control of an average civilian of the city Cierzo that is crumbling under the weight of financial strain. The story’s progression is based off of the player’s decision to either join a Holy Mission to be absolved of the debt, attempt to wipe the slate clean by entering into a new ‘bloodline,’ or become free from the system entirely.

The Soroboreans’ DLC seems to offer intriguing new challenges for Outward veterans while also offering a more elaborate world for new players to experience.
