Maxing your World Tier in Outriders offers loads of benefits — mostly the increased chance of legendary loot drops during quests, but also the gear that you’re given for completing a World Tier.

There’s one problem: playing on any World Tier above level 10 becomes quite a grind. The game doesn’t necessarily get any harder in terms of technical buffs and debuffs to enemies and your character, but you do need to think more about what class you’re running, the way you build your playstyle, and how to sustain your health through very long fights. Here are some tips to help you along the way.

6 You Need A Playstyle That Boosts Healing

Depending on your class, this is easier said than done. If you’re soloing Outriders missions on a high World Tier, the most important thing to focus on is your sustainability. Enemies have a lot of health from tier 10 upwards. You’ll need to be able to survive if you want to kill any of the Elites or Bosses.

The Devastator and Trickster are great solo classes because of the focus on high DPS and healing based on kills. As an example, a tanky Devastator build with plenty of healing mods and skills is the best way to conquer certain quests (like the tricky Shepherds of Enoch quest) on a very high world tier.

5 Conquering High World Tier Quests Is Best Done With Friends

Being able to solo high world tier content doesn’t necessarily mean that you should. With matchmaking up and running in Outriders, you can always join a party of players on a similar world tier. Every fight is easier when you have a balanced array of classes.

For example, the Technomancer can work as a fantastic support character, the Pyro can inflict debuffs across the entire battlefield, and the Devastator can sponge bullets and draw aggro from squishier players. If you find yourself struggling with a particular mission, try out the matchmaking. You might come across some decent players.

4 Elites And Bosses Have A Lot Of Health

If there’s one thing we’ve noticed about maxing our world tier it’s that the biggest change is to the health of Elites and Bosses. Their attacks don’t necessarily become any harder, or even do much more damage, but the fact it takes several minutes to reach half their health bar can be quite frustrating.

There’s really only one way to combat this: go for a build that has the highest DPS possible. Before the pre-patch nerfs of the Twisted Trickster build, we would have recommended it. Now you probably need to experiment with some of the other classes: we did manage an okay world tier 14 run of the second Yagak encounter with a Technomancer build that focused on damage from explosive skills.

3 You Need To Change Up Your Playstyle

Standing out in the open and blasting away just isn’t going to cut it on the higher world tiers. There’s a cover system in the game for a reason. When you’re facing hordes of enemies of mixed abilities (melee characters that charge you, snipers that seem to always hit their shots) you’re going to have to utilize the environment to your advantage.

One example of this: during one of the Kang’s Henchman fights we managed to find a narrow area of that map where we could run backward and forwards while kiting the Elite. During the Tooka Beast quest, you can basically glitch out the Elites at the entrance to the first fight. There are lots of tricks like this that can make the fights a bit easier.

2 Maintaining Your Ammo Is More Important Than You Think

On a high world tier, every single enemy has more health. The Elites can have thousands and thousands of HP. One thing we noticed while maxing out world tier 15  (after quite a grind) was that we’d run out of ammo way more often than on a lower world tier.

Usually, there are ammo boxes dotted around the battlefield, but on the odd occasions where there wasn’t (or the ammo box was just out of range of the battle, sometimes causing you to reset) it became a big problem. We found that getting a decent sidearm could help in certain situations, whereas some mods allowed us to replenish ammo more frequently. Check out our list of best mods here.

1 Don’t Worry About World Tier Too Much On Your First Playthrough

Any world tier above 4 will give you a boost to loop drop chances. When you start to hit the very top tiers you’re basically signing up for a serious grind. Ideally, you will keep your world tier a bit lower (around 8 or 9) until you finish the main quest. This gives you access to the endgame Expeditions content, arguably the most enjoyable part of Outriders.

You should consider upping your World Tier once you’ve completed the game. This makes heading back to certain quests (to farm Titanium, for example) even more lucrative. It also means you’re returning to the earlier parts of the game with much stronger gear that balances out with the boost of difficulty from the upper world tiers.
