The Outer Worlds Switch port is going to display at full 1080p graphics while docked.
There have been a few truly impressive Nintendo Switch ports of modern titles these days, including Doom, Skyrim, and even The Witcher III. But perhaps the most ambitious Switch port yet is the upcoming Outer Worlds, set to release on June 5 via digital download.
According to Obsidian, The Outer Worlds will play in full HD graphics when connected to the Switch dock and play at 720p when the Switch is in handheld mode.
The news comes from Nintendo Everything, which sat down with Obsidian production director Eric DeMilt. He said that the Switch port took a little extra time so that the team could get the controls just right for the Switch, with “tweaked and iterated aim assist values and added support for gyro aiming, and sticky targeting.”
“Porting a game with thousands of assets designed to be loaded and displayed on current-gen PCs and consoles with the power to display in 4: made streaming and visual fidelity a challenge on a handheld,” DeMilt explained, but he said that they’ve managed to produce a product that they’re “very happy with.”
The only downside is that the game will play at just 30 fps. That’s nothing compared to either the PS4 Pro or Xbox One X, but it’s still certainly playable so long as it doesn’t go below that number. We’ll see when The Outer Worlds hits the Switch on June 5.
