The Star Wars universe is getting ready to head into a whole new era as we explore a different time in the galaxy. Taking place 200 years before the prequel trilogy of films, the High Republic is looking to uncover a time of prosperity and peace with the Jedi Order. Writer Charles Soule has unveiled the first chapter in the new book Light of the Jedi, which will be the first in a trilogy of books taking place during the High Republic.

The first book will introduce readers to a bunch of new characters as it unveils an incident that puts the galaxy in chaos. Characters like Jedi Knight Avar Kriss and Wookiee Jedi Burryaga will be at the forefront of this new series of novels written by Soule. The first chapter was shown on IGN and revealed that a new threat to the Jedi is not ancient, but something far more alarming. Most of the franchise has dealt with war and ancient threats, but this new chapter will explore what appears to be an accident on a cargo vessel called the Legacy Run, which is broken and on a collision course with planets in the galaxy. It is certainly a different time from the Old Republic.

Even though the book was delayed from being released next month, we can at least get a taste of what’s to come in this new era in Star Wars. Talking about this latest chapter in Star Wars history, Soules explained that this new disaster will make the Republic turn to the Jedi during this unprecedented event. “The destruction of the Legacy Run is the catalyst for a galaxy-wide disaster,” Soules said. “In this moment of crisis, the Republic turns to the guardians of peace and justice — the Jedi.”

This new story seems to impact the universe at large as the Republic and the Jedi work together to avert this disaster. However, this is only the beginning of something much bigger to take place. “The Legacy Run disaster kicks off a much larger story; it really is just one piece of a much bigger saga." Sounds like a new saga is about to unfold. It’ll be interesting to see so many different Jedi across the galaxy as they work to save civilization from being destroyed by this impending disaster.

If readers want to take a look at the first chapter, they can find an excerpt at IGN. The new saga will kick off with Star Wars: The High Republic - Light of the Jedi when it comes to bookshelves on Jan. 5, 2021.
