Reaching the third boss of Othercide and seeing her name is the “Maid” may make you think you’re in for an easy time. Make no mistake, this Maid is going to mop the floor with your blood if you go in without a plan. This is a boss fight unlike any other in the game, not only having more skills to use against you than any boss before her, but it also adds a new element to your team you’ll need to be ready to take advantage of if you intend to survive this wicked creature.
The Maid Stats
Let’s start out by taking a closer look at what the Maid has up her sleeves in this battle.
Her HP is pretty high at 35,000, but has more than one way of recovering health, and once again you’re going in with four daughters. Her primary attack will be her Reaping skill, which is instant. This is a basic attack that targets three tiles in front of the boss.
Her Vow of Chastity is the first of two reaction skills she has. It gives her a boost of initiative every time she’s attacked. The other is Sisterly Love, which interrupts any melee attack and counters with an attack that can do over 1,200 damage.
Collection is her charged move. Once it is ready, the Maid will throw her scythe in eight straight lines and deal 1,200 damage, but also heal herself for that amount if it hits.
Once you get the Maid down to 80% health, she’ll transition into phase two, reset initiative, and come back at you with three more skills.
Two more are reactions, starting with Vow of Poverty. This move will heal the Maid for 100 HP any time your units move. Second is Forbidden Love, the long range version of Sisterly Love, which can interrupt any ranged attack and counter with 1,200 or more damage.
Finally she gets Deception, a charged AOE that will knock back any units hit.
But wait, the Maid actually has a third phase at 50% HP, and two more skills!
As if she didn’t have enough reactions to worry about, Vow of Obedience is a third reaction skill that gives the Maid initiative whenever any of your daughters takes any action. Her fourth and final reaction is Lost Love. This move can interrupt any buff you attempt to cast and then deal, you guessed it, around 1,200 damage.
The Maid Tips
Starting off the fight, Sisterly Love is going to be your main concern. Whenever it is active, your Blademaster should back off to avoid big hits. Vow of Chastity is another huge annoyance, pushing the Maid up on the timeline with each hit you land. Thankfully Collection is easy to avoid, so the first phase shouldn’t be too hard as long as you pay attention to Sisterly Love. It’s also good to note here that you can actually interrupt the Maid’s interrupt with you Soulsinger’s Intercepting Rounds to protect you Bladedancer or Shieldbearer.
Phase two is a bit tricky. You’re not going to want to move your units very much unless you absolutely have to. You also need to watch your Soulsingers and make sure they don’t attack while Forbidden Love is active since it can take them down quick. Deception has a big AOE, but you can find some safe spots close to and behind the boss. Just take extra care, try not to let her heal much, and push her into phase three as fast as you can.
You might be feeling a bit hopeless when phase three comes around, the Maid is only half dead, has two more skills and you’re barely holding on. Thankfully, you get some help in the form of an additional unit joining your team, the Scythedancer. She’ll come in at level ten automatically, full health, and will do wonders against the Maid’s armor. This class is basically made to counter the Maid, tearing through her remaining health as long as you don’t make any last minute mistakes. Just keep watching her reaction skills, try not to move unless you have to, and cut her down.
Rewards:
As with every boss you’ve beaten so far, you’ll get two Remembrances for beating the Maid. One grants a nice 25% bonus to your XP gain on a run, and the other is another remembrance you can use to skip an era.
