Perhaps to offset to the intense difficulty of even the most common encounter in Othercide, the four classes your daughters can be all fall into a reasonably familiar archetype. Where things get interesting is how their unique skills can make them into the kinds of units you wont see in any other game. While you’ll never feel overpowered in Othercide, in fact the game will more often push you to the limits of despair, knowing how to build your characters can give you just enough of an edge to take your next run further than your last.
The Soulsinger is a unique name for a somewhat familiar class. She’s your ranged attacker, using two pistols, but also specializes in buffing your other classes. The two skills she comes equipped with are Shot and Intercepting Round. Shot is a basic three-hit burst with her guns that has a max range of five tiles. Intercepting Round, on the other hand, is much more interesting. This skill will cancel any enemy’s attack aimed at another of your daughters with a quick counter shot. If that didn’t sound good enough already, it has no maximum range.
Best Skills
Level one, five, ten, and 15 all reward you with a new skill, but you have to make a choice. None are meant to be outright better than the other, but we have found a nice synergy with these specific skills.
At level one, we go with Shadow Round over Wrathful Ruin. This lets you attack any enemy being attacked by one of your other units. Between that and Intercepting Shot, her ability to lock down and take out enemies quickly becomes much stronger. Wrathful Ruin’s AOE is nice, but more situational and doesn’t synergize with the rest of the team at all.
Between Spirit Haste and Projected Force at level five, there’s no question Spirit Haste is the better answer. As a ranged support unit, buffing your other characters with 20 initiative is perfect for allowing other classes to let off more actions and skills which, in turn, allow your Soulsinger’s skills to activate as well. Projected Force, like the other skills we pass over, just isn’t useful in as many situations. It deals good damage, but the push back may or may not end up helping.
The Spirit Burst at level ten sounds good on paper, but as an AOE buff it actually won’t be worth much since your units are going to be separated around the map more often than not. Detonating Shot is a better to keep around as a fail safe if your Soulsinger gets into trouble by hitting a target and 3x3 zone for good damage.
Finally, for level 15, Spirit Round is your boss killer. It buffs your entire team’s damage by a massive 100%, allowing them to unleash everything they’ve got on a boss or difficult enemy. If you combine that with some initiative buffs beforehand, you can even get some units to get a few turns in before the buff wears off.
Best Memories
There’s two ways to go with memories for Soulsinger that work really well. First is to go with raw damage boosts like Rush and Defiance which add 50 and 100 damage respectively. These pair very well with your Shot skill because that damage bonus is added to each of the three shots.
For boosting your support capabilities, adding defense for a limited duration is a nice way to round out your character. Loop adds 200 armor that last 30 timeline initiative, Epicenter adds 600 for 30, and Retreat adds 800 for 30.
