Just like any good parent, you’ll probably get attached to the daughters you send into battle against the entity known simply as Suffering in the brutal, tactical rogue-lite Othercide. In games of this genre, somewhat like Into the Breach, failure is expected of you as you learn and make incremental progress before time is rewound and you try it all again. Unfortunately, that doesn’t bring back any of the daughters you may have lost on that attempt. If you want the chance to save at least some of your daughters, this guide will show you how to do it.
Resurrecting a daughter isn’t a simple process, which makes sense since almost nothing in Othercide comes easy. Even healing one unit will require the sacrifice of another, so the price of bringing a dead daughter back from death should also come at a cost. That cost is resurrection tokens, and there are only two ways to obtain them; Rescue missions and earning Remembrance perks.
Rescue Missions
These are some of the toughest missions Othercide has to offer, so make sure you’re prepared before tackling one of these for a fallen daughter because it may end up costing you a few more in the process. Enemies are relentless in these missions, and protecting the Bright Soul as well as your daughters is very tough. If you do manage to get the Brought Soul to the evacuation point and escape, you are given two options as a reward. One is to free the Bright Soul and collect 400 vitae, the game’s gold equivalent spent on improving or recruiting new daughters, or sacrificing it for one resurrection token.
Remembrances
These perks are offered to you every fourth day you complete in each era. That makes these more difficult to come by as you get further and further along and the difficulty of the game keeps increasing. If you can manage to survive through all the game’s chapters, and encountering all five bosses, you will earn one more resurrection token for each remembrance you’ve learned.
Take note that if you intend on using remembrances to get resurrection tokens they have to be active on your current playthrough. Double-check that you have enough shards and activate them beforehand or you’ll have to restart your run using the Recollection option to try again.
Using Resurrection Tokens
Just getting the tokens isn’t enough, you actually need to know how and where to use them if you want to bring a daughter back. You’ll need to first open the Inner Void tab in your menu and navigate to the Cemetery. Here you can find all the daughters you have lost, either through battle or sacrifice, in your campaigns. The cemetery isn’t endless, though, and can only hold 32 of your past daughters, so it is worth it to go in and choose some to forget to make space for when your higher-level daughters eventually meet their end.
Once you’ve picked out the one you want to bring back, select her from the list and spend your token. She will be fully restored, including her level, skills, and traits, but loses any mods or memories she had equipped before dying.
Try as you might, Othercide is not a game where you’re going to make it through without losing some of your daughters. While death doesn’t have to be permanent, it is costly so try to minimize it as much as possible.
