Is the white aesthetic of the PS5’s DualSense too bland for you? Don’t want to see scuff marks on the controller? Well, you might be in luck. More colors will be revealed at a later time.
Geoff Keighley recently showed the DualSense controller in action during a Summer Games Fest stream before interviewing PlayStation’s Marketing Head Eric Lempel. When Keighley asked about different colors for the controller, Lempel replied, “We’ll talk about it at some point.” He then mentioned, according to Destructoid, that it’s already difficult to get the unit ready to show for the event. They’re likely not focusing on alterations of the controller just yet.

The DualSense seems like an incredible piece of tech for the PS5. During the stream, Keighley blew into the controller for an in-game effect in Astro’s Playroom, and he heard little sound effects coming off the speaker. He could also feel the haptic feedback of the sand hitting the character’s face, and a spring loosening on the adaptive triggers.
With the release of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, it would be a nice touch to include a controller based on his costume. Or there could be an orange and purple controller based on Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Let’s hope Sony gets as creative with their controllers as Microsoft did in the last generation. There’s so much they can do!
In the past, the unique features of controllers haven’t been widely embraced by the third party development community. The Wiimote had a speaker that was barely used, and the Touch Pad on the DualShock 4 was pretty much reduced down to a map button for most games. Sony’s latest release, Ghost of Tsushima, however, has a neat feature with the touch pad; with a flick of the finger, you can summon wind that guides you to your desired location.
Hopefully, the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers will be used for more immersive gaming experiences. Imagine hooking onto a spider-web in Spider-Man: Miles Morales and feeling it loosen as you swing around New York City, or feeling the snow crumbling beneath his feet with the haptic feedback. That’s next-generation, baby.
