Osprey Games recently announced the tabletop game sourcebook for Righteous Blood, Ruthless Blades: Wuxia Roleplaying. This is the fourth sourcebook in the Osprey Roleplaying catalog, and is scheduled to hit the Osprey online store this December.

Osprey Games is the gaming arm of military history and warfare book publisher Osprey Publishing. Osprey Publishing began in 1968 and opened Osprey Games 40 years later in 2008. The Osprey Roleplaying line was launched in late June 2019 with Romance of the Perilous Land: A Roleplaying Game of British Folklore (Scott Malthouse) and Paleomythic: A Roleplaying Game of Stone and Sorcery (Graham Rose). Those Dark Places, an industrial sci-fi tabletop RPG by Jonathan Hicks, rounds out the currently available Osprey Roleplaying line.

According to the Osprey Games blog post announcement, Righteous Blood, Ruthless Blades: Wuxia Roleplaying is being designed and written by Brendan Davis and Jeremy Bai, with Kagan McLeod providing the artwork. Wuxia RP is set in the shared Jianghu world of martial arts, an alternate universe where law and order have collapsed, and disputes are worked out through use of force. Wuxia RP also contains heavy influences from the romanticized version of ancient China, along with somber and ominous themes found in many wuxia books and films.

Wuxia RP has combat, of course, designed around a d10 dice pool system to keep it fast, fluid, and dangerous. Staying true to popular wuxia movie scenes, Wuxia RP combat is “often resolved in a single roll of the dice.” Outside of combat, players will be able to show their mastery of the martial arts through roleplaying acts such as heroes and righting wrongs, to roleplaying on the dark side of a lawless society. The Wuxia RP sourcebook will contain the rules and guidelines for GMs to create wuxia adventures in the standard style of Jianghu, or to create their own. The sourcebook will also present an established world and starting adventure to get your players in right away.
