In a short trailer at the Xbox and Bethesda E3 showcase, Contraband - an open world co-op game - was announced.
Set in a fictional Southeast Asian country, Bayan, players take the role of smugglers. The game is set in the 1970s, and will focus on exploration.
While the trailer didn’t give much else away, it’s the latest game from Avalanche Studios, in partnership with Xbox Game Studios.
“Contraband is our most ambitious game yet and working closely together with Xbox Games Studios has been a great experience", said game director Omar Shakir after the reveal. “We can’t wait to share more about the game and the world of Bayan.”
Avalanche Studios is best known for both the Just Cause and RAGE franchises. Details are incredibly scarce for the new title, and we don’t yet know when we can expect to try Contraband out, or what the gameplay would actually entail. If the aesthetic of the trailer is anything to go by (as well as the fact that it’s an open-world title), it’s likely that Contraband will borrow heavily from Just Cause, leaning on Avalanche’s strengths.
This was far from the only announcement from the Xbox and Bethesda joint showcase. Fans finally got news on the long-awaited Starfield, revealing that it would be an Xbox console exclusive after months of speculation. We also have two new Fallout 76 expansions on the way, one of which is inspired by the Fallout 3 DLC, The Pitt.
