Last week, yet another Dark Souls 3 speedrun record was smashed by Nemz38, a prolific competitor who has made a name for himself in the Dark Souls circuit. The talented gamer cleared all Souls Level 1 bosses in an astounding 1 hour and 36 minutes, beating the old record by about half a minute. Perhaps even more notably, this feat was his eighth world record in Dark Souls 3, a title known as one of the most notoriously challenging games in the modern market.

We’ve seen talented gamers play through the title without taking hits or defeating certain bosses using only their fists, but this is the first time a sole player has dominated the speedrun leaderboards of Dark Souls 3 in such spectacular fashion. The UK-based gamer celebrated rather humbly on Twitter, simply tweeting out “I did it” when linking to his accolades.

Gamers can take a look at the latest Nemz speedrun here:

For the record, here’s the titles that Nemz currently holds in the Dark Souls 3 bracket:

  • Any% Any% No Teardrop Any% Current Patch Boss Rush All Bosses All Bosses No Major Skips All Bosses SL1 100%.

His Any% speedrun time clocks in at 30 minutes and 9 seconds, a mere 16 seconds ahead of the second-placed competitor. Still, considering that two years ago the top Any% speedrun time clocked in at just under two hours, it’s amazing to see how much the speedrunning community has been able to trim down the fastest times. For the current top ten runs, only 2 took longer than 40 minutes.

For now, there’s little doubt that Nemz is the de facto speedrun champion of Dark Souls 3. Holding one world record would be title enough for many, but not him. Evidently asked this many times, his Twitter takes a moment to reflect that he does “go to the gym and has a girlfriend, by the way”. What it doesn’t say, however, is if he is committed to holding the throne should rival speedrunners usurp any of his 8 records.

Dark Souls 3 is out now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
