Oddworld: New ’n’ Tasty is a remake of the acclaimed Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee which released in 1997. The remake which was originally released in 2014 was praised for its improved visuals and puzzles and as a result, Oddworld: New ’n’ Tasty became a critical success. The game is considered to be one of the most refined Oddworld titles and many believe it elevated the core games. The title is now set to arrive on the Nintendo Switch this October.

The original Oddworld games are 2.5-D platformers that were initially praised for their cinematic qualities and engaging puzzles. Oddworld: New ’n’ Tasty revitalizes the cinematic qualities of the original game and enables newcomers to experience the game with more vibrant visuals. The game has already been made available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC and with that in mind, many Nintendo fans may feel this release is overdue.

The trailer that announced the arrival of the game on the Switch was filled with the charm and wit that Oddworld fans have come to expect. It showcases the action and platforming that fans are familiar with alongside nods to the food-based plot of the game. The game will be available physically and digitally for Nintendo players in October although there is no official date for fans to look forward to yet. However, eager fans can begin pre-ordering the game today. This title looks set to entertain fans as they wait for the long-anticipated Oddworld: Soulstorm.

Many fans will not be surprised by this announcement as the series has steadily been arriving on the Nintendo Switch. In May, Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee arrived on the Switch and it will be interesting to see whether upcoming titles will also be made available for the platform. Technically impressive titles such as The Witcher 3 had successful Nintendo ports and given the 2.5-D nature of the Oddworld games, it does not seem that porting the upcoming game would be an impossible task. With that said, Oddworld: Soulstorm may focus on high-quality cinematic elements and therefore not be compatible with the Switch despite what appears to be a healthy relationship between the console and developer.

Nintendo fans will be glad that they can finally play multiple Oddworld projects and there will undoubtedly players who look forward to playing the platformer on the move. However, many will still be hoping to get a final release date for the long-awaited Oddworld: Soulstorm soon.

Oddworld: New ’n’ Tasty is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One. It will arrive on Nintendo Switch in October 2020.
