Surprise, surprise, Call Of Duty is going to have battle royale. The mode will be called Blackout, feature known characters from the Black Ops series, have vehicles, and, in true Call Of Duty fashion, zombies.

Black Ops 4 developer Treyarch hosted an event today to show off the game’s many features. Multiplayer and Zombies got their due, but we live in a Fortnite world, so the announcement people will be talking about most is Blackout. A trailer was dropped, narrated by a voice that talked about the unique gameplay systems Black Ops is known for, and how core they are to the experience. It also assured fans that Blackout was “doing battle Royale the Black Ops way.”

If the trailer is any indication, the “Black Ops way” is all about tech, vehicles, and reusing maps from previous games. The visuals start in a building setting and slowly zoom out to reveal the scale of the battlefield as the narration promises it will be the biggest map in Call Of Duty history. Soldiers can be seen all over the battlefield operating drones, firing guns, and getting around in both helicopters and land vehicles.

As for the giant map itself, it will apparently be “1500 times bigger than Nuketown” and feature set pieces from more than a few of Black Ops most famous maps. Famous characters from the Black Ops and Zombies lore will also make an appearance as playable avatars. Overall, it seems like Blackout will attempt to take recognizable elements from Black Ops past and mash them together in a battle royale-sized playing field.

Eurogamer has the official blurb, which goes into more detail. There, it describes Blackout as “the new battle royale-style experience that combines Black Ops’ signature fast, fluid, guns-up combat, with fierce new levels of survival competition across iconic Black Ops settings re-imagined at a colossal scale.” It also confirms that the mode can be played solo or in teams. Finally, it states that the PC version will be exclusive to Blizzard’s Battle.net and be optimized for 4K, HDR, and basically every optimal setting you can think of.

All versions of the game will release on October 12th.
