Obsidian Entertainment, the developer behind games like Fallout: New Vegas and The Outer Worlds, has hired Jason Diaz to work on an upcoming RPG project. Diaz has previously worked on games such as Destiny 2 and Call of Duty, and is joining Obisidian as animation director.
The original job listing posted by Obsidian on LinkedIn stated that the position would be working on a “AAA next-gen RPG.” Obsidian Entertainment has several projects in the works, though few details are known about most of them. Obsidian is working on Grounded, a sort of Honey I Shrunk the Kids-looking project, but Diaz’s project seems to be something else entirely.
Microsoft acquired Obsidian last year, giving the studio a safety net of resources. The team has regularly shown a talent for developing RPGs, putting a particular emphasis on storytelling and roleplaying elements within its games. Bringing in a talented animator like Diaz is sure to help bring other elements of the games to the next level.
With The Outer Worlds releasing just last year, it will likely be some time before fans get to see whatever project Diaz is working on with Obsidian. However, Diaz’s experience should speak for itself, and that should get fans excited for whatever Obsidian releases in the future.
