Ewan McGregor recently appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel Live! Show to talk about his upcoming show. Obi-Wan will of course star McGregor as the titular Jedi hero, but he revealed that he won’t be the only one on stage.
McGregor teased a “very special scene” was filmed in honor of Star Wars Day (also known as May the 4th), and that it was with someone who Ewan has never appeared on screen with.
“I got to play a very special scene on May the 4th. With someone very special in my life,” he said. “And that’s all I can tell you about it.”
Kimmel asked if the person was related to Obi-Wan in any way, but McGregor remained coy. “No, not necessarily,” he replied.
Besides the new on-screen partner, Obi-Wan is also getting a new outfit as part of the series that “is probably slightly different than you might expect.” He didn’t elaborate, but Obi-Wan has historically been all about the flowing robes of a Jedi, so anything beyond that will be a huge departure for the character.
Obi-Wan is set 10 years after Revenge of the Sith and follows his exploits after the surviving Jedi had all gone to ground. We know that Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru will also be there (played by Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse, respectively), along with new characters from Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, and Rupert Friend. Deborah Chow will direct following her work on The Mandalorian, while the script is written by Joby Harold.
Ahmed Best, the actor who voices everyone’s favorite vaguely racist alien Jar Jar Binks, was not asked to return for the show.
Production is set to begin soon, but no release date has been set.
