“Get ready” for an announcement from Nvidia. The latest tweet seems to be teasing some new GPU news that will arrive on May 31 at 10 AM PDT (1 PM EST). That’s coincidentally the same time that Nvidia will host its keynote address at Computex, Asia’s biggest technology conference.
What news is coming? Well, it’s almost certainly going to be about the 3070 Ti and 3080 Ti, which have both leaked from multiple sources and retail listings. Gigabyte even leaked the retail box a few days ago (which comes courtesy of VideoCardz.com).
As in previous generations, the 3070 Ti and 3080 Ti are expected to be improved versions of their respective RTX 30-series cards. The RTX 3080 Ti will have 12 GB of GDDR6X VRAM as opposed to the current 3080’s 10 GB of VRAM and is expected to clock in at $999 USD. The RTX 3070 Ti will retain its 8 GB VRAM but will make use of the faster GDDR6X type and also feature additional CUDA cores for greater processing speed. The 3070 Ti will be rumored to start at $599, which is $100 above the 3070’s base MSRP.
The 3080 Ti is rumored to be arriving June 5, while the 3070 Ti will have a street date of June 10.
Of course, the big question is whether either of these cards will be available anywhere near their manufacturer-recommended sale price. The global chip shortage has created a GPU supply bottleneck, while increased demand from both gamers and cryptominers has caused prices of video cards to skyrocket on the secondary market.
Nvidia has announced that future graphics cards will include its new crypto hash limiter that will make them far less attractive to cryptominers, although there are already reports of that limiter being hacked on the RTX 3060. Expect Nvidia to address cryptomining in some way during its Computex keynote address.
