AMC (not to be confused with the theater company) has recently published a series of Q&A interviews with cast and crew members of NOS4A2, the supernatural horror drama currently in its second season. The Q&A features a wide range of names, from star Ashleigh Cummings, to showrunner Jami O’Brien, and even author of the original novel, Joe Hill.

Each of the actors and writers take their turn answering big questions about the show and the processes that helped bring their story to life. O’Brien talked about some of considerations taken in adapting NOS4A2: “I knew that we wanted an adult Vic, and I also knew that I wanted to tell the portion of the story that happens when she’s a kid. In the novel, that’s when she first meets Charlie Manx, and that’s when she first learns about her own powers and begins to learn about her powers.”

Similarly, Ashleigh Cummings discussed how she chose to approach depicting main character Vic McQueen after the eight year time-skip that occurs between the first two seasons: “I wanted to create a sense of humanity, and offer insight into this woman that had been broken by the people and circumstances around her. Internal wounds are usually the place where hurtful behaviors are born, simply out of a desperate and maladaptive attempt at survival. I think understanding and empathy, rather than judgement, is how we start to transform that cyclical suffering.” She also commented on the mindset of her character, and how she enjoyed working with Jason David, the young actor who plays Vic’s son in the show.

The Q&A session also finds time for the author of the original book, Joe Hill, who spends some time musing on what its like to see his characters adapted to television: “As far as seeing the actors bring the characters to life — you don’t have as much space in a novel as you might think. Space is at a premium, and you have to keep things moving, and there’s an opportunity in a TV show to explore. There’s more narrative real estate, so you can explore a character in a much broader and deeper way.” He also commented on Zachary Quinto’s portrayal of Charlie Manx, the show’s main villain, praising his study of the character as going far deeper and more terrifying than the original version.

There are several other interviews posted on AMC’s website as well, including Q&A time with Zachary Quinto, Dalton Harrod, Virginia Kull, and more. Some of the interviews do include spoilers, with warnings included for the relevant interviews, so those who have yet to catch up on Vic McQueen’s story may want to be selective with their reading material.

Episodes of NOS4A2 season 2 launch on AMC, and AMC Premiere Sundays at 9pm.
