Going through the world battling demons is hard enough, let alone upping the difficulty level and putting the enemies on a heavy dose of power-ups. Nioh’s Twilight Missions take the already hard levels you’ve beaten and distort them into some of the toughest challenges in the Nioh series.
Even within this top level of difficulty there’s a leaderboard, things that separate the levels and make some stand out among the pack. From one-eyed beasts to one of the most feared bosses in the game, players will have to tank through some aggressive spirits while dodging a tricky set of obstacles.
9 The Blessed Village
Returning to the Isle Of Demons shore, this time around the landscape will have taken a turn for the unnatural. Everything you knew before about how to survive this path gets a lot harder, having a big ramp up in the need for supplies.
It’s not even the boss fight that’s going to be the trouble, as intimidating as he looks it’s basically the same version of Onryoki as in mission 2. It’s the horde of enemies that will be constantly showing up and attacking on the way to Onryoki that you have to worry about.
8 An Ominous Cavern
From being ambushed by skeletons trying to push you over the edge to traps constantly set in your path, it’s no wonder the Twilight Missions are known for their difficulty. The constant deception and traps being set for the player make for one of the more frustrating levels in the game.
This is backed up by the wild boss fight at the end with Hino-Enma. If you thought this fight was crazy before, you’ll definitely be caught on the back foot this time. Though her character follows the same attack patterns, her health bar is longer and her Ki defense is stronger.
7 The Squirming Sprite
Starting off the mission amongst bloody graves is never a good sign, especially when it’s shortly followed by the first heavy hitters in the Twilight Missions. Players quickly realizing that this will be more intense combat form the opening stages.
Instead of a more splayed out attack from multiple angles, this mission focuses on delivering big enemies with damaging blows throughout. Making every door you open or corner you turn a risk, the enemies you get are strong enough to count for the final boss fight as well.
6 Foreboding Seas
An almost 20 level requirement jump from the last mission, even the developers don’t want you getting that ahead of yourself. Not only will you have to navigate a ship filled with enemies, it’s a broken nightmare that will present a lot of obstacles along the way.
This mission will also take a lot longer than the previous tasks, offering up more loot while presenting more chances to get caught. The boss fight is by far the most challenging so far, with attacks killing you in one hit and the challenge of damaging a formless demon. Those that make it through will get a treasure trove of loot in true ship fashion.
5 The Best And The Worst
While it definitely has a more peaceful style that some of the other Twilight Missions, this one will test your problem solving skills more than combat abilities. There are still a good few enemies to take out but this level gives you a few more options than going head to head with them.
Once you’ve strained your brain and made it through the maze of houses and courtyards, the White Tiger will be waiting for you at the end. Not an enemy to be taken lightly, players will have to have a game plan going in or it will easily overwhelm them.
4 The Bleeding Spider Lily
Clearing the path to the big house, players will have to make their way through the mansion grounds. Searching past waterfalls and shrines, making your way through progressively more dangerous enemies as you go.
All leading to the temple gates, the starting point for the now even more powerful boss fight. The Ogress will be waiting at the top of the stairs with an even more aggressive play style that leaves no rooms for mistakes, taking her down is an exact practice.
3 Where Dark Forces Gather
The name says it all, players will be pit up against waves upon waves of enemies until they either outlast the storm or get swept away. A lot more straightforward than the other missions, it requires little adventure with a lot of combat.
Ranging from your run of the mill Onis and Imps to powerful Revenants, the player will have to be able to fight all types of enemy in this mission. With 3 waves to deal with, you should expect all 3 to bring the heat as soon as they’re summoned.
2 Bearer Of Ill Tidings
One of the shorter Twilight Missions, especially for this late in the game. Players won’t have to do much exploring this time around, with a direct mission to take out an Onmyo mage. The short but crowded path of diverse enemies will be confusing by itself, fending off multiple attacks from different angles.
This boss fight is interesting because it’s not the last opponent you’ll face, with Saika Magoichi defending the monk. Hitting the boss will be your biggest challenge with his mobile attacks, quickly getting out of the way of any counter play you try.
1 Evil In The Ether
Another straight to the point mission, likely because of what you have to face at the end. Even though it won’t take long, don’t mistake that for being easy by any means. The One-eyed Oni are out in full force on this one and show up at very annoying moments, luckily this mission does give you the option of simply running away and saving your health for the boss man.
Ishida Mitsunari, the king of the grabs and your final opponent in the Twilight Missions. He will use long range air slash attacks if you try to avoid him and massive damage grabs if you get to close, making the fight incredibly hard to navigate.
