Next week will see the release of two indie games for the Nintendo Switch: Octonaut and Holy Potatoes! What The Hell?!
Holy Potatoes! What The Hell?! Is the first to be released, with a date of June 24. According to the Steam page, it’s a cooking management simulator that puts the player in the role of a potato chef named Sweeny Tots who’s been sent to hell for sins he committed in life. While there, the chef is charged with whipping up a variety of dishes for the other potatoes who’ve been sent to hell.
In order to reach heaven the player must determine which sinners are worthy of the ultimate punishment – being served as one of many meals to be fed to the gods. The player will descend through the nine layers of hell mashing, frying, and serving up the sinners found in each layer to appease the gods in a bid to reach heaven.
According to Nintendo Soup, the game will become available to North American audiences on June 24 and cost $14.99.
The other quirky game being released next week, Ocotnauts, is a retro shoot’em up where the player acting as a octopus with special powers must fight back aliens seeking to take over Earth. The game was designed to replicate classical side-scrollers from the arcades and features both retro and modern game mechanics.
While the game is rather short – with only eight levels in the main storyline – it does feature a variety of difficulty settings and other game modes for replay ability. This results in a game that can appeal to casual gamers seeking a fun adventure to hardcore enthusiasts looking for intense challenges.
According to Nintendo Soup, Octonauts will be released for the Switch on June 25 and cost $6.99.
Both games are great examples of how indie developers are looking to tap into the success of the Switch and serve their customers even better. It’ll remain to be seen how these titles perform on the handheld device, but it’s likely to be a fun and convenient experience for fans both old and new.
