There are plenty of games releasing on the Nintendo Switch in 2021 that have fans drooling in excitement. From Metroid Dread to Shin Megami Tensei V, a lot of recognizable and expected titles are dropping this year. However, just because these popular franchises are seeing releases coming soon does not mean that other games should be forgotten.

Surprising new releases and ports making their way to Nintendo’s premier console, all should be equally anticipated. Read on if you want to take a look at some games you may not have known were making their way to the Nintendo Switch in 2021.

7 The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles (July 27, 2021)

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is an anticipated title for fans of the beloved courtroom drama games. It features two previously Japan-exclusive Ace Attorney games from the series in one bundle, allowing you to step into the shoes of Ryunosuke Naruhodo. Solving mysteries and uncovering convoluted truths have long been a favorite aspect of the Phoenix Wright games, so it will be nifty to play through the adventures of his ancestor. Set several decades back, the old-timey feel of these court disputes will add a whole new flavor to the game that Switch owners can enjoy.

6 No More Heroes 3 (August 27, 2021)

No More Heroes 3 is set to continue the surreal adventures of Travis Touchdown in fine fashion, packing in all the wild hack-and-slash goodness that is the series’ bread and butter. With a narrative revolving around Travis and his signature beam katana being the only things opposing a corrupt CEO teamed up with aliens to enact world domination, it can definitely be safely ascertained that this is a SUDA51 game to a tee. Open-world elements and, of course, cat-centric minigames are also on the table for Switch players and NMH fans this August.

5 Diablo II: Resurrected (September 23, 2021)

Though the franchise certainly has already made its mark on Nintendo’s innovative handheld hybrid with Diablo 3, this revitalized rendition of the ARPG classic following suit wasn’t the most obvious direction it could’ve taken.

Nonetheless, this formerly PC-exclusive Blizzard icon will most definitely be going pseudo-mobile when it releases in September, which is an exciting prospect to say the least. Whether you’re taking down Baal or messing with Mephisto, you’ll be able to channel your inner demon slayer anywhere from the bus stop to the coffee shop.

4 Dragon Ball Z Kakarot (September 24, 2021)

Placing the universe and story of Dragon Ball Z into an open-world environment is a clear appeal to fans of the classic anime. Dragon Ball Z Kakarot did just that, and Nintendo Switch owners can now experience Goku’s story for themselves when it launches in September. Not only can you explore your surroundings with utter abandon, you can play as various characters from Dragon Ball Z and engage in different side missions. Light RPG elements make Kakarot a game that can be easily approached by fans that do not typically engage in lengthy RPG titles.

3 Just Dance 2022 (November 4, 2021)

People often forget that the Switch can be more than a handheld console. It is also the premier spot for rhythm and dance games. This year, Just Dance 2022 will launch on multiple platforms, including the Nintendo Switch. Using popular songs as a medium, you can dance and exercise your way through a variety of tracks by yourself or with a friend. The vibrant colors on the screen and the easily-followed steps for each dance will keep you engrossed for hours. The Just Dance series has had long success with this formula, and there is no reason it shouldn’t work this time around. If you were thinking about purchasing Just Dance 2022, don’t hesitate to consider buying it for the Switch.

2 Disco Elysium: The Final Cut (2021)

Disco Elysium’s entirely unique RPG stylings were an unforgettable breakout hit — placed in the shoes of amnesiac detective recovering from a recent bender, players set out to solve a murder mystery and get far more than they bargained for.

The role-playing depth of Disco Elysium is unparalleled, featuring a deeply layered narrative, beautifully written dialogue, and brain-bending ideological commentary. Switch owners will be able to get their hands on the definitive version of this indie sensation sometime in late 2021.

1 Sonic Colors Ultimate (September 7, 2021)

Everyone’s favorite blue hedgehog will speed his way onto the Nintendo Switch in 2021. This remaster of Sonic Colors enhances the original gaming experience in every way. The visuals of the 2010 classic have obviously been enhanced, but in addition to that, there are also new game modes for you to participate in. You can also customize the way your Sonic looks with unlockable rewards. Sonic Colors Ultimate builds upon what was already an entertaining title, so you can expect similar levels of engagement this time around. Sonic does not get nearly as much love as he used to back in his heyday, so it’s always nice to see him make an appearance in a game.
