It seems that a big Nintendo Switch reveal is due to happen soon, as Nintendo Dream magazine is promising a big announcement in September for a game that is “sure to please everyone”.

The Nintendo Switch has had some killer releases in 2020, but there is no denying that the schedule during the second half of the year has been bare. Nintendo’s 2020 has been propped up by Animal Crossing: New Horizons, as well as a surge of interest in Ring-Fit Adventure due to the lockdown, but other first-party releases have been few and far between. This is especially true for the rest of the year, with the latter half of 2020 only having Pikmin 3 Deluxe on the first-party side, which is a port of a Wii U game.

The 2020 schedule isn’t as dry as we were led to believe, as there is going to be an announcement regarding a new game next month. According to Nintendo Everything, Nintendo Dream magazine in Japan is promoting the fact that it will reveal a new Switch game on September 19 when the next issue is released. The game will apparently be a title “that everyone will enjoy”.

This teaser isn’t exactly bursting with clues, but that have been rumors circulating that can help us guess. Our minds instantly go to the rumored Super Mario Bros. 35th anniversary compilation that could be released this year, as it would certainly fit the criteria of a big announcement. There have also been rumors of a Switch port of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword that is in development. The announcement could be for the rumored Pokémon Diamond & Pearl remakes, or the Let’s Go games set in the Johto region. It’s also possible that this title is for something entirely new.

Whatever the game is, its announcement will be welcome, following a year where the Nintendo Directs dried up. The Switch is gearing up for a holiday season where it will face off against the PS5 and the Xbox Series X, so Nintendo will need to have quality titles ready to make its system look like the more worthwhile investment.
