Want to flex your Splatoon 2 skills? Well, there will be a North American Open from Nintendo next month, and the winners will get download codes for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, ARMS, and Mario Tennis Aces. It’s time to splat your way to victory!

Nintendo Soup reports that the event will take place on September 6 and September 13, and will include Americans, Canadians, and Mexicans in the tournament. If you are over 13 years old, you can enter in the U.S. and Canada, but you have to be 18 or over in Mexico. Nintendo also recommends that you have a high-speed connection (imagine if the finals are laggy…yikes!), and of course a Nintendo Switch Online membership, in order to play. You can register for the tournament now and the cut off is on September 6 at 10:00 AM PT. Kinda cutting it close if you wait until the last moment! Each team must be registered through Battlefy.

Each member of the winning team will get the three download codes. This way, they won’t have to share the codes amongst themselves.

Splatoon 2 has been a huge success for Nintendo, and the company would want to keep that going with tournaments like this. On Twitch and YouTube, the more eyeballs on the game, the better, and with the best of the best duking it out, Splatoon 2 will look appealing to the masses. The game has sold over 10 million copies since its launch and will likely increase when the tournament is finito.

With the Splatoon series, Nintendo showed their creativity by switching up the third-person shooter genre for a more family-friendly audience. Instead of shooting enemies to death with bullets, you use paint to cover the surface area of the map and knock out other inklings. Through strategy, your team needs to get more of the space covered than the opponents.

Splatoon 2 is more of what we need in the world right now: levity, competitive sport, and collaboration. It brings all three of those in spades if you watch any of Nintendo Versus’ coverage of this game.

Splatoon 2 is available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch. There is currently no inkling of a third game as of yet from Nintendo, but there was a small hint back in January of something in the works.
