Ninja thinks it’s funny to joke about kicking people out of their homes during the highest unemployment rate since the great depression.

The notoriously thin-skinned streamer went on a bit of a tirade today while playing VALORANT with TimtheTatman, complaining that every game he plays with “relevant people” (whatever that means), he is perpetually the victim of insults about Mixer and Fortnite. Ninja proudly boasts that he could “literally purchase the bank that your house is being loaned out to, your mortgage, and fucking foreclose your house. And then you can’t talk shit to me because you won’t have internet.” You wouldn’t think someone that spends their entire day online could be so out of touch, but I guess once you reach a certain net worth, things like global epidemics and national economic collapse don’t really phase you.

I’m not suggesting Ninja really thinks he could buy a bank (even a small bank may require investments as high as $50 million, Ninja’s reported net worth is $15 million), nor do I believe Ninja really thinks a bank owner can choose to foreclose on someone’s house because they don’t like them (they can’t). It was obviously just a joke – a joke that reflects his lack of empathy for the millions currently at risk of losing their homes. It was a joke that reflects how disposable the rest of us are to the wealthy and how little our lives mean to them. You swat at a fly when it buzzes by your ear. Ninja forecloses on your house when you make fun of Mixer. Ninja is a gamer, a streamer, an entertainer, but above all, he’s a rich person, and don’t you forget it.

I know Ninja gets trolled all day long and has to listen to garbage being flung at him by randos online and I can imagine it gets pretty frustrating. I don’t begrudge him for lashing out. After all, a person can only take so much abuse. What alarms me is this dark fantasy he’s clearly put some thought into about displacing people that are mean to him. It’s a horribly timed thing to say, given the circumstances, but were we not currently in an economic crisis, it would still have been a repugnant and pathetic thing to say. I don’t think Ninja takes his charmed life for granted, but he seems to have forgotten his privilege. No one should have the kind of money he has for being good at Fortnite. Money might be able to buy a bank, but it obviously can’t buy class.
